Material/Process Inspector I-Salary Grade: B18; Salary Range: $45, $71,055.00 yearly
Material/Process Inspector II-Salary Grade: B19; Salary Range: $48, $76,028.00 yearly
Material/Process Inspector III-Salary Grade: B20; Salary Range: $51, $81,351.00 yearly

Position DescriptionMaterial/ Process Inspector I and II:
Performs material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Material Process Inspector III:
Performs complex material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the
supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Essential Duties:
Material/ Process Inspector I- Conducts pavement evaluations in the field.
- Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors and material producers and suppliers.
- Maintains a diary of inspection or test details.
- Maintains and calibrates equipment.
- Performs tests and inspection duties.
- Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement.
- Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.
- Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing.
- Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
In addition to the above,
- Handles material or production problems referred by less experienced inspectors.
- Prepares and maintains inspection or test reports and issues material reports.
- Reviews plans and material specifications for changes in material requirements.
- Coordinates core drill or auger rig operations.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
In addition to the above,
- Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.
- Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors, material producers and suppliers and field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.
- Keeps equipment mileage and service records and schedules equipment repairs.
- Maintains field record books for each construction project within assigned area office.
- Orders equipment and supplies.
- Conducts nuclear density tests on subgrade, base and asphaltic concrete pavement.
- Observes tests and inspections and reviews reports from other inspectors; performs quality assurance for tests and inspections.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience:Material/Process InspectorI: No experience required
Material/Process Inspector II: 1 YEAR Laboratory work, material inspection or other eng-related work
Material/Process Inspector III: 2 YEARS laboratory work, material inspection or other eng-related work
(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Licenses and Certifications:Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Material Process Inspector I must obtain 2 of the following certifications within twelve (12) months of date of hire.
Material Process Inspector II must have 1 of the following certifications at the time of hire and obtain 2 additional certifications within twelve (12) moths of hire.
Material Process Inspector III must have 2 of the following certifications at the time of hire and obtain 2 additional certifications within twelve (12) moths of hire.

- Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance

- Nuclear gauge operation
- Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
and Skill in: - Safely using, operating, and maintaining applicable equipment
- Conducting laboratory tests
- Calibrating equipment
- Training in a classroom, office, or field environment
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes
- Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
- Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
- Subject to noise

Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
- Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
- Visual Acuity-determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures
