The middle school interventionist will provide targeted, small-group support to students struggling with core literacy and numeracy, using data to personalize instruction in specific skills like phonics, comprehension, or math concepts, rather than replacing core teaching but supplementing it in a focused, research-based way to build foundational skills and confidence. The interventionist will work with struggling readers and math learners, often implementing evidence-based programs and monitoring progress closely to help students catch up and succeed.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
- Deliver intensive reading and/or math interventions to individuals or small groups.
- Use diagnostic, formative, and summative data to pinpoint student needs and track growth.
- Address specific reading components (phonemic awareness, fluency, comprehension) or math concepts (conceptual understanding, problem-solving).
- Work with classroom teachers to align interventions with core curriculum.
- Regularly assess students to adjust strategies and ensure effectiveness.
- Maintain detailed records of student performance.
- Report student progress findings to teachers, administrators, and parents.
- Demonstrate effective intervention techniques for general education staff.
- Participate in school-level planning and meetings.
- Assist in planning and executing parent involvement activities related to Title I goals.
- Help maintain documentation for federal Title I monitoring.
Essential Skills & Qualities:
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Possess strong organizational skills to maintain accurate student records and create an intervention schedule based upon students' needs.
- Ability to analyze and interpret student assessment results and implement instructional plans based on results.
- Knowledge of effective intervention strategies.
- Experience working with at-risk students preferred.
Qualifications:
Must possess a valid WV teacher's certificate. Certification in special education preferred.

- This position is grant-funded and is contingent upon continued receipt of funding.
Compensation
Salary based on experience and education level per Clay County Board of Education Salary Schedule, plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
