Join our established team as a Shipping Clerk in Richmond, Virginia. This critical role supports our extensive logistics operations by ensuring that all outgoing shipments are processed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with company and carrier regulations. You will be responsible for preparing shipping documents, coordinating with carriers, inspecting outgoing goods, and maintaining accurate shipping records. A keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to safety are essential. We emphasize the use of appropriate PPE and provide ongoing safety training.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and process all shipping documentation, including bills of lading, invoices, and customs forms where applicable.
- Verify outgoing orders for accuracy against shipping manifests.
- Coordinate with freight carriers to schedule pickups and deliveries.
- Inspect outgoing shipments to ensure proper packaging, labeling, and secure loading.
- Maintain accurate records of all shipments, tracking packages and resolving any discrepancies.
- Communicate effectively with internal departments (e.g., warehouse, sales) regarding shipping status.
- Ensure compliance with all transportation regulations and company policies.
- Operate shipping software and systems.
- Adhere to all warehouse safety standards and diligently use required PPE.
- Assist in the loading and unloading of trucks as needed, ensuring safe lifting practices are followed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree in logistics or a related field is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Shipping Clerk or in a similar logistics support role.
- Proficiency in shipping software and basic computer applications.
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Understanding of shipping regulations and carrier procedures.
- Knowledge of warehouse safety practices and commitment to using PPE.
- Ability to perform some lifting, up to 30 lbs.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
