Overview GovCIO is looking for an experienced Storage and Backup Engineer to enhance the Department of Veterans Affairs' IT infrastructure by designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced storage and backup solutions. This is a remote position primarily based in the United States, requiring up to 10 - 20% on-site work at the Austin Information Technology Center in Austin, Texas. Responsibilities Expertly design and implement scalable, efficient storage and backup architectures for both on-premises and cloud environments, with a focus on Azure Cloud integration.
Leverage extensive experience with Commvault for enterprise data protection, backup, and disaster recovery to ensure business continuity and comply with regulations.
Utilize hands-on experience with enterprise storage platforms and virtualization technologies including VMware, Storage Area Networks (SAN), and Microsoft Hyper-V.
Develop a deep understanding of hybrid backup solutions, including cloud-based backup repositories like Azure Blob Storage and AWS S3 for effective data protection and archival.
Optimize storage and backup environments, improving performance, reducing backup windows, and maximizing resource utilization.
Ensure reliable and high-speed data access across enterprise systems through a strong knowledge of storage networking protocols such as Fibre Channel, iSCSI, and NFS.
Qualifications Required Skills and Experience Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, with 12+ years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated expertise in enterprise storage platforms, preferably with HPE, Pure Storage, and NetApp.
Proven ability to implement and manage Commvault or other enterprise backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Rubrik, Veritas) in hybrid environments.
Strong troubleshooting skills for storage and backup performance issues.
Architect and deploy scalable storage and backup systems effectively across hybrid environments.
Resolve complex storage and backup-related issues in challenging network environments.
Clearance Required Must be able to obtain and maintain a suitability/public trust clearance.
Preferred Skills and Experience Familiarity with multiple storage vendor platforms, especially HPE, Pure Storage, and NetApp.
Understanding of cloud object storage including AWS S3 and Google Cloud Storage for backup repositories.
Experience with alternative backup solutions such as Veeam, Rubrik, or Veritas NetBackup.
Proficiency in Agile methodologies and project management tools like Azure DevOps and Jira.
Monitor and enhance storage and backup performance, availability, and reliability.
