Description & Requirements Maximus is in search of a Lead Network Engineer to support a federal client in their mission-critical systems to protect our Homeland. If you are an experienced Network Engineer eager to make a significant impact, we want you to join our team. In this role, you will take charge of designing, implementing, and maintaining the network infrastructure of our organization. Your expertise will be crucial in network administration, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring optimal performance, availability, and security of our network systems. This position is on-site five days a week and requires an active Secret security clearance. Maximus TCS (Technology and Consulting Services) Internal Job Profile Code: TCS167, T5, Band 8 Job-Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Act as the lead engineer for perimeter firewall defense with extensive expertise in Palo Alto Networks firewalls. Design, implement, and manage dual-site, geographically separated firewall environments, ensuring high availability and resiliency. Construct, configure, and maintain Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) tunnels to ensure secure and reliable connectivity between sites. Set up, monitor, and optimize firewall policies, security rules, VPNs, and threat prevention features to safeguard enterprise network perimeters. Troubleshoot and resolve complex firewall and network security issues using logs, packet captures, and tools like Wireshark; act as the escalation point for Palo Alto-related incidents. Collaborate with network architecture, security, and infrastructure teams to integrate firewall solutions into a larger enterprise and zero-trust security strategies. Support additional network components as necessary (routers, switches, load balancers, VPN concentrators) with a primary focus on firewall engineering. Monitor network performance and capacity, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies to ensure throughput, reliability, and scalability. Develop and maintain technical documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and troubleshooting guides. Stay updated on Palo Alto technologies, emerging threats, and industry best practices; recommend enhancements and improvements as appropriate. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to operational excellence within the team. Perform other tasks as assigned. Job-Specific Minimum Requirements: Active Secret clearance is required. Due to contract obligations, only U.S. Citizens can be considered. Candidates with dual citizenship cannot be considered. 12+ years of experience in a Senior Network Engineer role or related fields. Must possess one of the following certifications: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) OR Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE) OR Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE). 3+ years of hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls. 3+ years of experience working directly with government customers and stakeholders. Demonstrated technical leadership experience, including leading networking initiatives and mentoring junior staff. Candidates must reside within a commutable distance for daily onsite work and on-call duties. This contract requires 24x7x365 uptime. Candidates must be willing to meet recall requirements and participate in a rotational on-call schedule. Preferred Skills and Qualifications: DHS Suitability. Additional Palo Alto Networks certifications (e.g., PCNSA, PCNSE, or equivalent) are strongly preferred. Experience with cloud infrastructure environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, or hybrid cloud) integrated with on-premise firewall and security architectures. Salary Information:
