AWS Infrastructure Services is at the forefront of designing, planning, delivering, and operating the global AWS infrastructure. We are the team that ensures the cloud remains operational, supporting all AWS data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment necessary for our customers to maintain access to vital innovations. If you're eager to tackle challenging problems involving complex supply chains, we want to hear from you! You'll be part of a diverse group of experts, including software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security professionals, and operations managers. Collaboration across AWS is key to delivering the highest safety and security standards while providing our customers with seemingly limitless capacity at the lowest possible cost. Experience a welcoming culture that values bold ideas and empowers you to bring those ideas to fruition! Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with vendors and manufacturers to assess new hardware and software features, devising implementation plans for network integration. Automate optical test plans and qualify optical modules. Design and specify structured cabling systems (fiber, copper, cable trays/duct banks) for network layers in hyperscale data centers. Establish standards, reference designs, and installation guidelines for physical network and cabling deployments. Identify ambiguous challenges in existing or new network architecture and propose impactful projects. Lead discussions with customers and peers, playing a vital role in team strategy. Collaborate with internal network engineering and site operations teams to ensure physical designs align with logical network architecture. Manage fiber vendors and contractors, overseeing quality control and commissioning of fiber bundles and structured cabling systems. Conduct mitigation analysis and site inspections to verify as-built conditions, ensuring compliance with design and operational standards. Monitor module quality across the fleet, developing mechanisms to address large-scale events and enhance link health. Troubleshoot and resolve issues during build, commissioning, and handover phases to guarantee network readiness. Maintain thorough documentation, drawings, and asset records for physical network components at global locations. Provide feedback to design and operations teams to drive continuous improvement of physical network standards. A Day in the Life: Your daily activities will involve understanding the AWS network while addressing our internal customers’ interconnect solutions. You will work backward to devise hardware solutions through industry influence, develop software tools with cross-functional teams, and ensure a highly available network that delights AWS customers. You will create processes that systematically help the team deliver impactful business results while enhancing our operational excellence. You’ll connect design, construction, and operations, ensuring every aspect of physical networking—from fiber trunks to copper patching to optical transceivers—meets rigorous performance, reliability, and scalability standards. About the Team: Within AWS Networking, the Network Product Development (NPD) organization is responsible for designing hardware, building software, and managing interconnections for the routers powering the global AWS network. We're committed to tracking key business and operational metrics to ensure smooth operations, minimizing customer impact due to device-related issues for a seamless customer experience.
