We're looking for an Associate Data Engineer to join the Data & Analytics team at Holland & Barrett. This is an entry‑level role where you'll start your career in data engineering, learning how to design, build, and support modern data solutions on AWS.
You'll work closely with cross‑functional teams including Data Science, BI, and Analytics to develop cloud‑native, scalable data infrastructure powering advanced analytics, machine learning and AI services. You'll be part of a collaborative and supportive environment, reporting to the Senior Data Engineering Manager, with clear opportunities for professional growth as you help us build high‑impact data platforms for the world's leading health & wellness retailer.
The Role
Support the development and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and services using AWS (Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, S3, Athena).
Write clean, well‑documented code in Python or another modern programming language.
Assist with infrastructure deployments using infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and development workflows using GitLab CI.
Help monitor, maintain, and improve data platforms using tools like CloudWatch or Datadog.
Collaborate with Data Science, BI, and Analytics teams to deliver secure, reliable data solutions.
Location This role is based in London, with the requirement to be in the office at least two days per week.
The Person Essential
Programming skills in Python or another modern language (Java, Scala, Go, etc.).
Good understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software engineering fundamentals.
Working knowledge of SQL.
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a remote friendly team.
A proactive mindset with a genuine eagerness to learn and develop.
Desirable
Exposure to AWS services (S3, Lambda, Glue, Athena, Redshift, DynamoDB).
Familiarity with CI/CD concepts, version control, containerisation tools and orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow).
Nice to Have on your CV
Academic, internship, or project experience in cloud or data engineering.
Familiarity with serverles/event‑driven architectures.
Interest in building data services and exploring new technologies.
