Summary

The Senior Developer position plays a pivotal role in advancing Mercy's commitment to patient-centered care through the strategic optimization of technological systems. This senior-level role assumes leadership responsibilities as a primary developer for multiple applications, databases, reports, interfaces, and scripts. In this senior capacity, the role extends beyond individual development tasks to encompass a comprehensive collaboration with process owners, business managers, technical experts, and project managers. The Senior Developer strategically integrates tools, data, and innovative strategies across a diverse range of business needs, fostering a seamless and impactful technological ecosystem that directly contributes to the enhancement of patient care and overall operational efficiency.

Job Description

Job Duties/Essential Functions

  • Job Duties
    • Evaluates and coordinates management of the current and possible BI tools to determine the best and most cost-effective use for Mercy's business needs.
    • Gathers business requirements, designs, coordinates, tests and supports applications, reports, scripts and interfaces.
    • Creates and updates new and existing advanced application code, scripts, batch files, and other programs written in various programming languages supported by the IS department.
    • Serves as senior level developer for multiple applications, databases, reports, interfaces and scripts.
    • Works with the Information Services staff, customers within the organization, key users requiring specific outcome data needs, management level staff, vendors and other external entities as appropriate to implement solutions.
    • Demonstrates ability to identify an area needing improvement and correcting the process.
    • Implements enhancement by gaining leadership approval and ops agreement (as needed) for implementing new workflow and using process improvement/quality methods available to you to document the project, changes and improvements.
    • Demonstrates proactive support by regularly engaging in projects that extend beyond primary responsibilities, showcasing leadership in managing one or more applications/software.
    • Supports and resolves incidents with assigned applications. Reviews incident tickets for trends in software issues and works to identify root cause for these issues and works with advanced vendor support teams to resolve complex application issues.
    • Leads and designs data migration strategy, manages complex data loads and other data movement by communicating environment activities including refreshes, downtimes, upgrades, and patches.  (May include one or more items listed).
    • Demonstrates knowledge of advanced database technologies, hierarchical and Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) methodology in a client/server environment.
    • Plans, organizes, oversees and coordinates the source and use of data in mission critical computer applications, specifically within centralized data repositories.
    • Provide leadership on data security, BI steering and/or data governance leadership by leading at least one related effort, providing expert thought leadership for best practices in maintaining accurate data usage and HIPAA compliance.
    • Collaborates with peers to conduct thorough reviews, guaranteeing the accuracy and effectiveness of documentation across the board for all primarily supported functions.
    • Ensures continuity and minimizes the risk of knowledge loss by spearheading the development and maintenance of comprehensive documentation for key applications and processes.
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

Professional Experience

  • Required: Eight years of structured programming, application development, or report writing experience.  Knowledge of advanced data visualization tools.
  • Preferred: Experience with Microsoft .NET framework, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), and Microsoft SQL Data mining capabilities and WEB development expertise especially as it relates to supporting WEB views of SQL data is highly desirable. Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint Services and SharePoint Portal Server Sites, HL7, MAGIC Programming, and Non-Procedural Representation (NPR) report writer. Experience with health care organizations.
  • Preferred experience highlights:  Statistical programming knowledge, ability to synthesize complex data into user friendly visual presentations, working knowledge and experience with developing reports utilizing tools such as SQL, SAP BI suite and Tableau.

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Computer Science or equivalent experience in Information Systems field.

Licensure, Certification, Registration

  • None, however if the employee comes to the position with a current license (i.e. RN, CPA, Microsoft Certification, etc.), it is expected to be maintained for the duration of their employment unless waived by the VP/CIO and Director of Information Services, Application Support.
