Job Summary

Emma Rue's is seeking a Part-Time Pastry Cook to support our in-house dessert program. This role is ideal for someone who loves thoughtful desserts, clean execution, and working within a refined hospitality environment. You'll work closely with our leadership team to prepare and execute a focused dessert menu that complements our craft cocktail program.

Emma Rue's operates a dedicated gluten-free kitchen, and this role plays an important part in maintaining the quality, safety, and integrity of our gluten-free desserts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and execute house desserts according to established recipes and standards
  • Assist with daily and weekly pastry prep (custards, cakes, cookies, creams, garnishes, etc.)
  • Maintain consistency, quality, and presentation during service
  • Follow proper food safety, sanitation, labeling, and allergen protocols—especially gluten-free standards
  • Assist with inventory tracking and prep planning for the desserts
  • Occasionally assist with seasonal menu updates or special events
  • Responsible for learning decorating and finishing techniques

Qualifications & Skills

  • Prior experience in a pastry, baking, or dessert-focused kitchen preferred (professional or educational)
  • Experience with gluten-free cooking and baking is a plus
  • Understanding of gluten-free ingredients, cross-contact prevention, and allergen-safe practices preferred
  • Strong foundational skills (measuring, mixing, baking, plating, time management)
  • Comfortable working from recipes with attention to detail and consistency
  • Ability to work independently during prep while communicating clearly with the team
  • Organized, reliable, and able to manage time efficiently in a small kitchen
  • Interest in elevated desserts and hospitality-driven experiences
  • Food handler's card (or ability to obtain one)

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $ $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 – 15 per week
