Bullis School seeks a Middle School Mathematics Teacher to contribute to our vibrant, student-centered learning community beginning in the academic year. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about teaching a range of middle school math courses, with a particular focus on developing and delivering an engaging, hands-on mathematics curriculum for students from 6th Grade Math through Geometry.

This is a full-time, 10-month position reporting to the Head of Middle School. Responsibilities include teaching five classes, serving as an advisor, and contributing to department initiatives. All Middle School faculty participate as chaperones for a week-long Discovery Days experiential trip with students in the spring. Additional opportunities to supervise co-curricular activities may be available based on interest and school needs.

About the Middle School Math Department: The Middle School Math Department is committed to developing confident, curious, and increasingly independent mathematical thinkers. The program emphasizes strong foundational skills while fostering a love of problem-solving, ensuring students are well-prepared for Algebra 1 and beyond. Within a supportive academic environment, math teachers create opportunities for discovery both inside and outside the classroom. Students are encouraged to take intellectual risks, collaborate with peers, and explore multiple approaches to solving problems. Teachers work closely in both subject-area and grade-level teams to refine instruction, share best practices, and continuously improve the student learning experience. A strong emphasis is placed on developing leadership, independence, and a growth mindset in all learners.

Essential Functions

  • Teach five classes per academic year
  • Duties within the community, including student advising or other extracurricular activities
  • Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy
  • Collaborate with mathematics colleagues to further advance department goals and initiatives
  • Participate and collaborate with teachers and other subject-area experts on grade-level and interdisciplinary teams
  • Use technology to enhance students' active, experiential, and hands-on learning
  • Create learning environments that encourage risk-taking and deep learning for students with a range of learning abilities using a variety of methods and technology
  • Use of reflection and feedback aimed at continued growth in the field of teaching and working with young people
  • Collaborate with grade-level colleagues to develop project-based learning opportunities for students
  • Remain current in pedagogical practices and field-related trends
  • Attend Middle School divisional, social studies department, grade-level, and interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Communicate with parents, school counselors, and administrators on students' progress, as needed and appropriate.
  • Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standard and provide timely feedback to students
  • Use the student learning management system to provide timely feedback, grades, and assignments to students

Other Duties

  • Other tasks as assigned by the Head of Middle School
  • Continued professional development endeavors

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Education or related field
  • Minimum of two years prior teaching experience

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in Mathematics, Education or related field
  • Proficiency with Windows or Apple OS, Microsoft Office, cloud computing (Google Docs, etc.), and other productivity and media software

Compensation and benefits are competitive, with an anticipated salary range of $65,000 to $95,000.
