Primary Responsibilities
Provide oversight for the Quality, Safety, Education and regulatory needs of the entire SOC with autonomy to drive execution of necessary initiatives to continue to advance the SOC
Manage reference lab client service models to support the scope of the fledgling organization of us as a professional reference lab.
Maintain relationships with Marketing, Legal and other organization resources to uphold CCHMC standards
Identify team needs to support and manage client access to the EpicCarelink portal for clinical lab testing as well as the digital path face of the laboratory services
Spearhead and drive clinical trials fast to market approach to get contracts set, reviewed and signed in order to compete with other established laboratory services
Build the revenue stream for client work through effective processes and roles, now and as the future dictates.
Additional Responsibilities and Scope of Work
Strategic Management - Collaborate with departmental leadership on long- and short-term strategic planning in alignment with organizational priorities. Supports and implements operating priorities through targeted, innovative and responsive solutions. Acts together with senior leadership as a champion for positive organizational culture and quality of work life. Partners with departmental leadership to ensure appropriate financial management and stewardship.
Operations Management - Ensure processes are in place to support a complex system of laboratories providing immediate, complex and novel testing in support of in-patient, outpatient and external client business. Ensure Laboratory processes are in support of accurate and timely testing with appropriate human, physical and technical resources. Develop operational management reports reflecting work volume, staff utilization, equipment utilization, and turnaround time reporting. Project planning to support/improve lab operations including people planning, space planning, and capital equipment planning. Tactically implement decisions to support the strategic plan of the clinical laboratories. Inform personnel of policy changes developed by administration and implement these changes.
People Planning - Conduct ongoing evaluation and mentoring of direct reports including effective, clear and timely performance evaluation and active succession planning. Oversee performance management for indirect reports. Ensure direct and indirect reports are properly trained to perform job functions. Ensure departmental and Medical Center initiatives, priorities, standards and policies are effectively communicated and understood by direct and indirect reports. Provide staff with clear, actionable goals and timely, direct feedback related to attainment of those goals through the reporting period. Assist staff in understanding how their positions support and contribute to the mission, vision and strategies of the Medical Center. Coordinate personnel foundational activities across the site of care, including job description coordination, standard onboarding practices, retention and recruiting strategies and staff education.
Regulatory & Compliance - Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Evaluate area of responsibility for compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Identify best practices as well as deficiencies to share with peers and make recommendations for improvement. Participate in the development of corrective action plans to guide needed and sustainable improvements. Ensure that compliance and readiness plan are current. Enhance relationships to promote interdisciplinary involvement and knowledge of compliance standards, status and actions. Track laws, regulations and standards that may affect practices and policies. Work with direct reports to ensure needed changes are made by the effective date of any change(s) in requirements.
Fiscal Accountability - Develop, evaluate and manage annual fiscal operating and capital equipment budgets. Evaluate and manage operating revenue/expense variances monthly and communicate appropriately. May use research and/or analysis to maximize efficiency and/or profitability. Develop and maintain a working relationship with appropriate individuals.
Process Improvement - Participate in improving/assuring organizational and/or departmental performance/quality through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and/or providing input to department discussions. Anticipate and actively identify and recommend areas for process/system improvement. Will work with appropriate personnel to implement agreed upon changes. Participates in the evaluation of improvement initiatives/activities.
To provide planning and oversight of regulatory, quality and foundational standards and requirements in a complex clinical laboratory system.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in laboratory sciences or related field (Chemical or Biological Science)
8+ years technical experience in a related laboratory setting
Current clinical registry (ASCP or equivalent)
Leadership or management experience
Knowledge of CAP, Joint Commission, CMS/CLIA and FDA regulations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in a related field
Laboratory management experience within a complex clinical laboratory setting
Certification by national laboratory accrediting agency
