Salary Range

$90, $165,750.00

Overview
Manages and monitors staff, policies, practices, and procedures across various operational areas such as human resources, information technology, financial reporting, facilities, research, and compliance. Provides strategic direction for departmental operations, administration, business operations, clinical, communications, computer and information systems, development, finance, human resources, museums, research, service, safety, and student services. Oversees administration, ensures efficient operations, and advances departmental objectives in communications, development, faculty affairs, and events. Manages teams of administrative professionals, provides leadership, and ensures key functions are executed effectively. Develops internal and external communications strategies, enhances alumni engagement, guides philanthropic initiatives, manages faculty recruitment and budget, organizes departmental events, and optimizes resource management.

Principal Responsibilities

1.  Oversees the activities related to routine and emergency work in controls and automation to provide timely and efficient response to building maintenance and environmental systems in a 24/7 operation.  Manages and coordinates activities for service and maintenance response to environmental control systems with various service responders to ensure timely delivery and completion of service work throughout the University buildings and other related areas. 
2.  Supervises a staff of non-exempt employees. Determines equipment, materials and staff necessary to meet required time frames and schedules. Evaluates staff performance and proposes supplementary training programs. 
3.  Reviews shift logs, alarms and printouts for environmental conditions, ensuring the use of appropriate statistical and other test methods to assess environmental conditions.  Evaluates the status of outstanding emergency requests and follow-up on job status.
4.  Ensures the efficiency of department services provided to the University.  Determines appropriate exceptions to department policies to accommodate problems with environmental systems or building maintenance as accurate decision-making is critical to prevent harm to occupants or damage to University buildings, equipment, works of art or scientific experiments.
5.  Reviews and provides feedback on design documentation for projects implemented with Planning and Project Management.  Assists project team with walk-throughs and infrastructure review related to a project.  Attends project meetings as necessary during design and construction to interface with project design and construction teams on MEP related issues that impact building system infrastructure.
6.  Supports development and maintenance of HVAC controls related design standards for the University.  Reviews project drawings and documentation implemented for compliance with standards.
7.  Works closely with the Energy Management Team to understand, define and document the projects technical scope of work and support project cost projections and financial analysis. Has a high level of working experience of the technical, management, and organization environments in which cogeneration and renewable energy projects are executed.
8.  In support of Plant Operations, develops and implements subcontractor project plans incorporating allocated scope of work, risk sharing and mitigation, performance guarantees and acceptance criteria.  Provides on-site supervision and management of installation works and sub-contractors for project compliance with systems engineering and technical performance requirements.  Manages the bidding process in accordance with procurement requirements. 
9.  Estimates time and material costs for all work efforts, determining sequences and methods to be used. Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with established standards and building codes. Ensure maintenance of adequate inventory of supplies and materials and evaluate and recommend purchases of new products as required. 
10. Responsible for the planning and scheduling of alterations and renovations work to minimize system failures. Compares alternate solutions and determines how to best utilize staff and outside contractors. 
11. Evaluates customer needs. Assess and resolves customer complaints regarding building maintenance, safety, and fire safety. Analyzes and responds to emergencies. Determines the most effective means and methods for executing construction projects.
12. Working with the Office of Environmental Health and safety, resolve health and safety issues involving students, faculty, staff and visitors at Yale University.
13. Provides innovative thought and concepts, stay informed of latest controls techniques, and incorporate best practices to continually improve services.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of HVAC-related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required License(s) or Certification(s)
E2 or S2 or higher.
