Position Summary

At OneWell Health Care , the Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing compassionate, person-centered care to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) . DSPs assist individuals in achieving greater independence and community inclusion by supporting their daily living needs, implementing individualized care and behavioral support plans, and fostering a safe, respectful, and empowering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Direct Care and Daily Living Support

Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs) , including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and hygiene.

Support individuals in meal planning, preparation, and feeding according to dietary needs and preferences.

Administer medications and monitor for side effects in accordance with established protocols (if certified).

Provide mobility assistance, including lifting and transferring individuals who require physical support.

Monitor health conditions, report changes promptly, and assist with medical appointments as needed.

  1. Individualized Support and Skill Development

Implement individualized service and behavioral support plans under the guidance of clinical and supervisory staff.

Encourage and assist individuals in developing independent living, communication, and social skills.

Facilitate participation in community activities, employment, recreation, and other social engagements.

Promote dignity, autonomy, and inclusion in all aspects of daily life.

  1. Environment and Safety

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe living environment , adhering to health and safety protocols.

Ensure compliance with all agency, state, and federal regulations , including HIPAA and confidentiality standards.

Respond to emergencies and incidents according to established procedures and document appropriately.

  1. Communication and Collaboration

Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, families, and healthcare professionals.

Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and program development activities as required.

Document daily activities, progress notes, and incident reports accurately and on time.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)

Minimum age: 18 years

Two (2) years of experience working with adults with IDD (Preferred)

Two (2) years of experience in behavioral management or support (Preferred)

Certifications (Preferred but not Required):
First Aid and CPR Certification

Medication Administration (Med Certification)

Licenses:
Valid Driver's License and ability to reliably commute or travel as needed (Required)

Dependable and adaptable, with the ability to respond calmly in challenging or emergency situations.

Work Environment

Work performed in residential homes, community settings, or day programs.

May require flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on individual needs.

Moderate physical activity including lifting, walking, and assisting with mobility may be required.
