The Regional Operations Director (ROD) is the operational and cultural driver for a portfolio of VetnCare hospitals. This leader is accountable for day-to-day execution, performance management, culture-building, and financial results, ensuring each hospital operates with discipline, clarity, and compassion.

This is a boots-on-the-ground role with deep involvement in schedules, daily operations, revenue levers, people leadership, and developing HMs and CDs into effective, accountable site leaders.

The ideal candidate is a high-EQ operator who brings structure, presence, and maturity, while building strong relationships, elevating standards, and driving consistent performance improvement across the region.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Leadership & Cadence

  • Establish and maintain strong, repeatable operational rhythms across each hospital (EOD controls, scheduling discipline, staffing models, workflow optimization).
  • Ensure each hospital consistently executes high-quality medicine, delivers world class client experience, and operational fundamentals.
  • Actively identify operational gaps and solve them hands-on, not from a distance.
  • Partner with the SVP Ops to translate enterprise priorities into clear, actionable site-level plans.

2. People Leadership & Culture

  • Directly manage and develop Hospital Managers and Clinical Directors; provide high-touch coaching, real-time feedback, and accountability.
  • Build a culture that is mature, constructive, and team-oriented, while addressing unhealthy dynamics quickly and effectively.
  • Raise leadership capability—grow leaders who can run their hospitals with discipline, clarity, and emotional intelligence.
  • Strengthen teamwork between medical and operational leaders, ensuring alignment and shared ownership of hospital outcomes.

3. Hospital Performance & Growth

  • Full accountability for the P&L, including revenue growth, labor management, scheduling optimization, and volume levers.
  • Use data intelligently: monitor KPIs, lead metric reviews, and drive corrective action or improvement plans.
  • Ensure hospitals meet or exceed targets in appointments/day, AAV, operational efficiency, client experience, and clinical throughput.
  • Champion continuous improvement—identify and execute practical changes that move hospital performance forward quickly.

4. Clinical Partnership & Patient/Client Experience

  • Work closely with CDs to ensure veterinarians are effectively supported, schedules are optimized, and clinical teams are staffed and functioning well.
  • Improve the use of RVTs and VAs, enabling team-based medicine and care at the top of license.
  • Ensure a high-quality, consistent client experience, addressing patterns, feedback, and service issues promptly.

5. Integrations, Change Management & Market Leadership

  • Lead the integration of newly acquired or restructured hospitals.
  • Guide hospitals through change—calmly, clearly, and with strong stakeholder management.
  • Build community partnerships and represent VetnCare in the local market.

Must-Have Competencies

Operational Excellence

  • Strong command of scheduling, labor models, financial drivers, throughput, and daily clinic operations.
  • Builds systems and discipline, not chaos or "check-in" management.

Hands-On Leadership

  • Comfortable being physically present in hospitals 4+ days per week and engaging deeply with staff and operations.

Emotional Intelligence & Maturity

Reads people and culture well; addresses issues early with clarity and calm. Builds trust through presence, partnership, and follow-through.

Accountability & Execution

Holds leaders and teams to high standards while being supportive and fair. Can rapidly drive performance improvement without damaging culture. Strong Communication

  • Clear, direct, reliable communicator—up, down, and across.
  • Skilled in tough conversations, coaching, and conflict resolution.

Change Leadership

  • Thrives in an evolving environment; brings structure, clarity, and steadiness.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of leadership experience in operations (veterinary, healthcare, or multi-site service industry strongly preferred).
  • 3+ years of multi-site management experience.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering operational and financial results through frontline teams.

Proven experience developing leaders and managing complex people dynamics. Strong financial acumen, including full P&L ownership.

  • High comfort with data, KPIs, dashboards, and structured operating rhythms.

  • Willingness and ability to travel across assigned hospitals frequently (majority of time on-site).
