Under the general direction of the SSMIII (M), the SSMI (Sup) serves as the CMD Personnel Officer. The SSMI (Sup) is responsible for overseeing the Transactions, Payroll and Benefits sections, and will at times be required to work on special projects. The SSMI (Sup) will directly supervise roughly 10 staff ranging from OT to AGPA.

The incumbent performs the full range of supervisory duties, including, but not limited to: interpreting and adhering to policies, rules, laws, regulations, and bargaining unit contracts; providing direction and guidance regarding work assignments and daily work activities to ensure timely completion of assignment reviewing work and evaluating staff performance by providing regular feedback and completing timely probationary reports and annual performance appraisals; monitoring employee performance and, when necessary, utilizing performance management principles and procedures; completing personnel documentation and utilizing the competitive hiring process; and approving or denying administrative requests, including leave, overtime, travel, and training.

Department Information

As an employee of the CA Military Department (CMD), you are required to perform the "essential functions" of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. You are expected to work cooperatively with all internal/external staff, to provide the highest level of customer service possible while meeting the CMD mission. All employees are required to treat others fairly, honestly, and with respect.

The CMD has free parking; a free gym on-site for employees; and conveniently located within a few miles of major shopping centers, including many restaurants.

Persons employed at the California Military Department must be able to pass a background investigation and LiveScan fingerprinting.

  • This position may/may not be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the CMD and based on the current telework policy. While the CMD supports telework where possible, in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises, as determined by the Department.
