Overview

The Security Supervisor oversees, supervises, and monitors all security activities for the Court, Convention Center, municipal buildings, and other City property. Ensures and supervises the protection of property against theft and vandalism.

Essential Functions

1 Supervises, oversees, and monitors the daily operations involved in security and incident reporting; assigns work, monitors situations and emergencies, tracks and documents personnel time, and maintains updated software; evaluates, monitors, and reviews the quality of work performed and ensures all policies are followed.

2 Implements plans, schedules, and assignments; determines objectives needing emphasis; recommends or adjusts work priorities, project schedules, resources, and work plans as required.

3 Gives advice, counsel, instruction, and identifies routine training needs for security staff; provides knowledge and expertise on handling challenging emergency or security situations, and maintains strong open communication with City Management; ensures appropriate internal controls are in place and regularly evaluates staff and provides performance feedback.

4 Prepares monthly reports for assigned departments, audits and evaluates case files, determines overdue files, and evaluates progress; develops and implements improved security operational standards and procedures.

5 Participates in staff and personnel management; reviews applications, participates in hiring processes, oversees training, resolves personnel conflicts, and approves payroll.

6 Creates and develops strong training and educational materials for new Officers; creatively and efficiently teaches new recruits to ensure highest quality of code enforcement and compliance activities.

7 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

1 Ability to use fire arms properly.

2 Ability to interact with a multi-ethnic population and workforce.

3 Knowledge of the laws and regulations of the State of Texas.

4 Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

5 Ability to use good judgment, discretion, tact and to act quickly in an emergency.

6 Communicating effectively and clearly verbally and in writing.

7 Handling and subduing irate or problematic citizens and keeping peace.

8 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

9 Ability to pass the educational, physical and emotional requirements, and training standards for a Peace Officer in Texas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

• Four (4) years of law/code enforcement or security/protective service experience.

AND

• One (1) year lead work and/or supervisory responsibilities. (This experience may be included in the required experience listed above.)

EQUIVALENCIES

• Thirty (30) completed college semester credit hours plus four (4) years of the required experience including one (1) year of the stated lead work/supervisory responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.
• Sixty (60) completed college semester credit hours (or more) plus three (3) years of the required experience including one (1) year of the stated lead work/supervisory responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.
• Bachelor's degree (or higher) plus one (1) year of the required experience including one (1) year of the stated lead work/supervisory responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.
• A minimum of thirty-six (36) months active service in the Armed Forces of the United States of America with an Honorable Discharge plus two (2) years of the required experience including one (1) year of the stated lead work/supervisory responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Valid driver's license with good driving record.
• Must obtain Level II & III Security Commission license issued by the Private Security Bureau of the Texas Department of Public Safety within probationary period.
• Must pass the Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) security awareness exam within probationary period

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Must pass extensive background check, physical, polygraph, psychological exam and drug/alcohol tests.
• No FELONY convictions.
• No class A MISDEMEANOR convictions within the last five (5) years.
• Must be able to qualify with and carry department-issued firearm.
• May require extended periods of standing and/or walking.

• Available as needed for City Emergencies, including inclement weather.

• Official college transcript(s) may be required prior to appointment.

Salary Range

$ $31.28

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
