Position Overview
Fort Wayne Country Club (FWCC) is seeking a qualified, respectful, and service-oriented Pool Manager & Swim Team Coach to lead all aspects of the Club's aquatics program. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for daily pool operations, staff supervision, member experience, safety compliance, and serving as Head Coach of the FWCC Swim Team.
The FWCC pool operates from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and this role is critical to delivering a safe, welcoming, and vibrant summer experience for members and their families.

About Fort Wayne Country Club
Established in 1908, Fort Wayne Country Club is a family-friendly private club situated on 355 acres in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Club features banquet and dining facilities, an outdoor pool with Poolside Café, an 18-hole golf course, Golf Academy, and year-round tennis and pickleball. The aquatics program plays a central role in the summer Member experience.
Essential Responsibilities
Aquatics Operations & Member Experience
- Oversee all daily pool operations, programming, activities, and events
- Serve as the on-site leader during pool hours, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment
- Promote and educate staff on the FWCC Pool mission, culture, and service standards
- Greet Members by name, building rapport, and respond professionally to questions, concerns, and feedback
- Anticipate and proactively resolve operational or Member-related issues
- Act as lead for Emergency Action Plans and ensure strict adherence to safety procedures
- Complete end-of-day operational documentation and reports for Club leadership
- Assume all essential duties of a Lifeguard as needed
Staff Leadership & Supervision
- Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and mentor lifeguards, lead lifeguards, and instructors
- Conduct regular staff meetings, in-service trainings, and one-on-one check-ins
- Evaluate lifeguard performance monthly using designated evaluation tools and maintain proper documentation
- Monitor daily staffing ratios based on weather conditions and pool usage
- Delegate daily operational responsibilities including cleanliness, laundry, and deck organization
- Maintain and update the FWCC Pool Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) manual
Swim Team Coaching & Programming
- Serve as Head Coach for the FWCC Swim Team
- Plan and lead daily swim practices and oversee swimmer development
- Coordinate swim meets, lineups, league communication, and event logistics
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team culture emphasizing sportsmanship and club pride
- Assist with group and private swim lessons as requested
- Communicate clearly with swimmers, parents, staff, and Club leadership
Interdepartmental & Club Communication
- Work collaboratively with other FWCC departments to enhance the overall Member experience
- Maintain close daily communication with the Food & Beverage Manager regarding poolside operations
- Partner with the Marketing Director on pool communications, registrations, and promotion of programs and events
- Communicate with Members via email, text, apps, and in person on behalf of FWCC
Qualifications & Skills
- Prior experience as a Pool Manager, Aquatics Director, Head Lifeguard, or Swim Coach preferred
- Strong swimmer; competitive swimming background strongly preferred
- Prior lifeguarding experience preferred
- Experience working with children and enforcing rules in a structured environment
- Ability to lead teams, enforce standards, and remain calm under pressure
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both adults and children
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in heat and sun
- Availability to work 40+ hours per week, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays during the season
Required Certifications (upon employment)
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- First Aid Certification
- AED Certification
