Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly, perform patient intake procedures, and accurately record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates.
- Assist healthcare providers with clinical tasks including medication administration, specimen collection, wound dressing changes, and basic X-ray procedures.
- Prepare examination rooms by ensuring cleanliness, sterilization, and proper setup of medical equipment.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR systems) efficiently by documenting patient encounters, ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases), and updating medical histories.
- Support hospital-based teams by assisting with inpatient care activities in Level I or Level II trauma centers, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), or medical-surgical units.
- Conduct routine diagnostic procedures such as taking X-rays or performing basic physiology assessments to aid in accurate diagnosis.
- Collaborate with the team to ensure compliance with safety protocols like Basic Life Support (BLS) standards and maintain accurate documentation for billing and coding purposes.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology to support effective patient care.
- Experience working in outpatient clinics or hospital environments such as emergency departments or Level I trauma centers.
- Proficiency with EHR systems for documentation and appointment scheduling.
- Ability to perform clinical tasks including vital signs measurement, medication administration, specimen collection, and basic X-ray operation.
- Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach to diverse populations including geriatrics and pediatric patients in PICU settings.
- Familiarity with ICD coding for accurate billing and insurance processing.
- Knowledge of hospital medicine practices across various specialties like internal medicine or urgent care settings; experience in medical-surgical units is a plus.
- Ability to adapt quickly in fast-paced environments such as emergency medicine or Level II trauma centers while maintaining attention to detail.
