Position Summary:
The Line Cook is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality meals in accordance with the dietary needs and preferences of residents in an assisted living setting. This position ensures meals are prepared safely, attractively, and on schedule while following all Washington State Department of Health food safety and sanitation regulations. The Line Cook plays an essential role in maintaining resident satisfaction through excellent food preparation, teamwork, and consistent service.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Service
- Prepare, cook, and plate menu items according to standardized recipes, portion control, and presentation guidelines.
- Ensure all meals meet residents' dietary restrictions, texture modifications, and special diet requirements (e.g., low-sodium, diabetic-friendly).
- Assist in preparing meals for regular service, special events, and holidays.
- Maintain quality, flavor, and temperature standards throughout meal service.
Sanitation & Safety
- Follow all Washington State food safety, sanitation, and infection control regulations (WAC
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area, including kitchen equipment, prep surfaces, and storage areas.
- Ensure proper labeling, dating, and storage of food items to prevent spoilage and cross-contamination.
- Adhere to facility policies for safe food handling, allergen management, and personal hygiene.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff, servers, and dietary aides to ensure timely meal service.
- Communicate effectively with the Head Chef, Dietary Manager, and caregiving team regarding residents' preferences or dietary changes.
- Participate in daily or weekly kitchen meetings and ongoing staff training.
Inventory & Equipment
- Assist in monitoring food and supply inventory levels.
- Report low stock or equipment malfunctions promptly to the supervisor.
- Use kitchen equipment safely and report maintenance needs as required.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Food Worker Card issued by the State of Washington (must be obtained before first day of work).
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a line cook or equivalent food service experience.
- Ability to read and follow recipes, portion guides, and dietary menus.
- Strong understanding of safe food handling and kitchen sanitation procedures.

- Preferred:
- Experience working in healthcare, assisted living, senior dining, or institutional kitchens.
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets (e.g., mechanical soft, pureed, no added salt).

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and carrying required.
Schedule:
- Full-time or part-time positions available.
- May include weekends and holidays as scheduled.
Compensation:
- Competitive hourly wage based on experience.
