We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to spearhead mechanical design and development for advanced automation systems. We are a leading designer and manufacturer of custom processing and packaging automation equipment.
This hands-on engineering role encompasses full lifecycle product development, from initial concepts and detailed designs to fabrication, assembly, installation, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will excel in a custom automation environment, assume ownership of designs, and ensure all equipment adheres to strict safety standards.
Key Responsibilities- Spearhead the mechanical design of custom automated machinery tailored for food processing and packaging applications.
- Develop intricate automation systems utilizing SolidWorks, dedicating approximately 90–95% of your time to design-related tasks.
- Manage projects from initial concept and detailed design to release, overseeing fabrication, assembly, and installation phases.
- Work closely with fabrication, machining, and assembly teams throughout the manufacturing process.
- Address and resolve mechanical challenges on the production floor during equipment construction and setup, ensuring smooth operations.
- Guarantee all designs adhere to FDA, USDA, and ANSI sanitary and safety requirements, contributing to a safe and compliant environment.
- Develop and aid in the implementation of standard machine designs for the packaging sector of the business.
- Support the integration of automation components, including conveyors, robotics, pneumatics, motors, and third-party systems.
- Enhance design standards, reliability, and repeatability through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Possess 5+ years of experience in designing custom automated machinery.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in SolidWorks through extensive daily application.
- Have experience in designing and integrating automation systems (conveyors, pneumatics, robotics, motor sizing, etc.).
- Possess hands-on experience in fabrication, machining, sheet metal, and assembly environments.
- Exhibit a solid understanding of food-grade and sanitary design principles.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve mechanical issues during construction and setup, ensuring project success.
- Prior experience designing food processing or packaging automation equipment.
- Familiarity with FDA, USDA, and ANSI standards governing food machinery.
- Experience integrating third-party equipment (labelers, printers, glue systems, lasers, inspection systems, etc.).
- Experience developing standardized designs within a custom equipment context.
- ERP and BOM management experience (any system; Global Shop experience is advantageous).
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or possess equivalent practical experience.
- A strong problem-solver who takes ownership from start to finish.
- Comfortable thriving in a fast-paced, custom automation environment.
- A hands-on engineer who is comfortable on the shop floor when needed.
- Detail-oriented, with a focus on building reliable, repeatable, and sanitary equipment.
