Position Summary

The Day Center Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight of a low-barrier day center serving individuals experiencing homelessness. This role ensures smooth daily operations, high-quality guest services, consistent program delivery, and effective coordination of facilities and safety needs. The Operations Manager serves as the operational backbone of the Day Center, supporting frontline staff, maintaining accountability systems, and ensuring that services such as hygiene distribution, engagement activities, and programming are delivered in a respectful, trauma-informed, and dignified manner.

Primary Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Operations

· Oversee daily operations of the Day Center to ensure a safe, welcoming, and well-organized environment for guests and staff.

· Ensure the consistent distribution of hygiene items, toiletries, and basic supplies in accordance with program guidelines.

· Monitor daily schedules, staff coverage, and service flow to ensure all core Day Center functions are completed.

Guest Services Oversight

· Supervise Guest Services Associates and ensure regular, appropriate engagement with guests, including check-ins, resource navigation, and de-escalation when needed.

· Ensure guest interactions are aligned with trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and low-barrier service principles.

· Address guest concerns, conflicts, or behavioral issues in coordination with clinical, case management, or security staff as appropriate.

Programming and Service Coordination

· Ensure scheduled programming (e.g., groups, workshops, outreach activities, peer engagement) is occurring as planned.

· Coordinate with clinical, peer support, and case management teams to ensure space readiness and operational support for programming.

· Track and report on daily service delivery, attendance, and operational outcomes as required.

Facilities and Safety Coordination

· Monitor the physical condition of the Day Center, including cleanliness, safety, and functionality of common areas, restrooms, and program spaces.

· Identify, document, and report maintenance or facilities issues to the appropriate channels in a timely manner.

· Support adherence to health, safety, and sanitation standards, including incident reporting and follow-up.

Staff Supervision and Support

· Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance feedback to Guest Services and other assigned operational staff.

· Support orientation onboarding, training, and ongoing development of Day Center operations staff.

· Model professional boundaries, ethical conduct, and respectful communication at all times.

Documentation and Reporting

· Ensure completion of daily operational logs, incident reports, supply tracking, and other required documentation.

· Communicate operational updates, challenges, and recommendations to leadership in a clear and timely manner.

· Support data collection efforts related to services, utilization, and outcomes as needed.

Qualifications

Required

· Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field or equivalent relevant experience.

· Minimum of 3 years of experience in operations, shelter services, day centers, or community-based programs serving unhoused or vulnerable populations.

· Experience supervising staff in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

· Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and low-barrier service models.

Preferred

· Experience working in homeless services, behavioral health, or integrated social service settings.

· Familiarity with facilities coordination, safety protocols, and incident management.

· Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages relevant to the community) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to daily operational challenges.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse populations.

· Ability to de-escalate conflict and support staff in high-stress situations.

· Proficiency with basic data tracking systems, reports, and documentation.

· Commitment to equity, dignity, and person-centered service delivery.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

· Work is primarily performed in an active Day Center environment.

· Requires the ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.

· May require occasional lifting of supplies (up to 25 lbs).

· Some evening or weekend hours may be required based on program needs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $56, $68,454.09 per year
