At PawMed, you will focus on high-quality small animal urgent care, specializing in those time-sensitive cases that don't require 24/7 ER hospitalization but demand immediate attention. You will be practicing comprehensive medicine alongside an experienced team of veterinarians, some of whom transitioned from demanding emergency room environments to create this essential service. While our focus is urgent care, we prioritize education and advanced capabilities. You will benefit from collaborative decision-making and have consistent opportunities to utilize internal consulting resources to ensure every patient receives top-tier, evidence-based care. Licensed Veterinary Technician – Full Time
Locations: PawMed Charleston & PawMed Summerville

PawMed is looking for a full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our growing PawMed team If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, can prioritize patients based on urgency, and enjoy working as part of a collaborative team, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do:

  • Triage patients and identify critical needs
  • Fill medications and perform venipuncture on dogs and cats
  • Utilize solid restraint techniques for dogs and cats
  • Support daily clinic operations across both Charleston and Summerville locations
  • Work alongside our new surgeon and veterinary team as our services continue to grow

Our Caseload:

  • Weekdays: 15–20 patients per day
  • Weekends: May exceed 20 patients per day

Services We Provide:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Ear infections
  • Eye infections
  • Dehydration
  • Fever
  • Coughing or sneezing
  • Cuts, scrapes, lacerations, wounds, and burns
  • Broken nails and injured paw pads
  • Toxin exposure (rat poison, pesticides, fertilizers, etc.)
  • Allergic reactions, skin problems, itching, licking, fleas/ticks
  • Limping
  • Possible fractures or broken bones
  • Anal gland issues
  • Difficulty urinating or urinary problems
  • Decreased appetite or not eating
  • Euthanasia

Your Impact as an Urgent Care LVT

Note: The Licensed Veterinary Technician title is used in various states based on state-specific licensing and credentialing requirements. Responsibilities may vary depending on the hospital and/or state and will be outlined by the state's Veterinary Practice Act and/or the responsible veterinarian, where applicable.

  • Be a Lifeline for Patients in Crisis: You'll be on the front lines, utilizing your full skillset in triage, stabilization, patient monitoring, and critical care under veterinarian supervision.
  • Provide Clarity in Critical Moments: You'll be a vital and calming link for pet owners, clearly explaining treatments, reviewing discharge instructions, and providing reassurance during stressful times.
  • Lead and Elevate Your Team: In a fast-paced setting, you'll guide and support your colleagues, ensuring a smooth workflow and fostering a focused, collaborative atmosphere.
  • Ensure Seamless Care: Your clear and accurate record-keeping in a fast-paced environment will be crucial for patient handoffs, case management, and effective team communication.
What You'll Bring to the Team
  • A calm, efficient, and decisive approach, especially during medical emergencies.
  • Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technician program and a current state license in good standing.
  • Proficiency in a range of technical skills, with a strong aptitude for emergency procedures, anesthesia monitoring, and critical care nursing.
  • Confidence in handling animals of all temperaments and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for working collaboratively under pressure.
  • One year of experience in a veterinary setting is preferred; urgent care or emergency experience is a plus
