Job Summary
Provides assistive services and support to the Optometrist in the delivery of patient focused eye care. Balances multiple priorities to complete assigned tasks in a team-oriented environment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.
  • Prepares examination and pre-screening rooms by cleaning and setting up equipment and instruments, and stocking and arranging appropriate supplies.
  • Reviews appointment schedules to determine patient visit order, making appointments and discussing fees and co-payments with patients as needed.
  • Greets and escorts patients to pre-screening, examination or treatment room and instructs and/or assists patient in preparation for scheduled procedures.
  • Pre-screens patients for vision examination and contact lens visits. Including completion of appropriate case history in relation to chief complaint, past and present ocular history, family history, systemic illness, allergies and medications, visual acuity test, auto lensometry of all spectacles, auto-refraction test, auto-keratometry, NCT and stereopsis, color testing and ocular motility, and pupillary screening.
  • Performs automated visual fields as directed following established policies and procedures.
  • Assists Optometrist in patient data documentation as needed and appropriate.
  • Performs routine clerical and reception duties as directed, including filing progress sheets, completing patient visit records, maintaining department logs, answering and screening phone calls, taking messages, copying, faxing and light typing as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to assisting in orientation and training of new employees, transporting equipment and patients, stocking departments supply shelves and taking inventories.
  • Establishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with other personnel, Health Plan members, and the public.
