Job Summary:

Assists Upgrade manager with upgrade operations of welding, grinding, sand blasting, heat treating and the tool room. Provides support for flow of product on floor.

Additionally, the Assistant Upgrade Manager will aid in training and development of staff, participate in evaluation process, and partner with Upgrade Manager to determine staffing needs.

They will also provide as back-up to the Upgrade manager when he is unavailable for meetings or reporting as necessary.

Job Qualifications:

Education: Vocational training in welding, mechanical technology or related trades area beyond high school is highly preferred. Some advanced education is preferred.

Experience: Hands on experience in casting upgrade processes - welding, grinding, jet-arc, heat treat, QC/QA, x-ray, machining and/or related experience.

An appropriate combination of education and experience will be considered.

Skills: Familiarity and ability to use related manufacturing tools and read blueprints / interpret material specifications and job requirements in developing shop routing best suited for component production. Developed judgement and decision-making skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. Ability to coordinate operations and to motivate a workforce to produce and ship products, with minimal supervision.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in coordination of production efforts within PRL facilities.

  • Manages training and development for new and existing employees. Support improving productivity, quality, and efficiency of operations.

  • Coordinate in partnership with Upgrade Manager department activities through planning and communication to ensure manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Assists Upgrade Manager with employee evaluations.
  • Aids in scheduling work through the shop utilizing ERP system in doing so.
  • Aids in creating product structures for shop travelers.
  • Aids in establishing and monitoring overall department performance for production and quality standards.
  • Incorporates shop floor organization and department cleanliness among plant personnel.
  • Performs production work throughout the plant as needed.
  • Enforces compliance in all company safety initiatives, directives, and accountability.

Physical and Mental Efforts:

General: Moderate mobility required, plant/office setting, light lifting. Walking and standing for moderate durations; see objects closely; and hear normal sounds with some background noises. Position requires ability to concentrate with interruptions and attend to tasks for 45 to 60 minutes at a time.

Industrial shop setting. Dust, dirt, metal debris from manufacturing will be encountered. Moderate levels of noise will be encountered.
