Job Summary
The Multimedia Department produces photo, video and digital content for BPUB.
The team works closely with other departments, to tell the story of BPUB's people, services and community impact.
I'd like the intern to assist with photo and video shoots, asset organization and some basic editing.
Preferred majors include:
- Communications
- Multimedia
- Digital Media
- Film/Video Production
- Journalism
- Marketing or related fields
The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) Student Intern Program provides college students with a unique and meaningful learning opportunity to explore careers in the utility industry. Under the guidance of a supervisor/mentor, College Interns work on assigned career-related utility projects designed to enhance or complement their education and career objectives.
Our Internship Program provides students with an opportunity to gain experience while working with a diverse group of professionals in various different fields with the utility. In addition, the BPUB Student Internship Program helps students to obtain high quality jobs, gain valuable experience, and achieve greater success in their future career paths; and practice the application of skills and concepts learned in the classroom (theory to practice).
The 2026 Summer Internship Program is a 12-week program beginning on Monday, May 18, 2026 and ending on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Responsibilities
Under supervision, provides business knowledge and technical skills in support of daily functions and responsibilities of assigned department.
ESSENTIALJOBDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES
Duties will be specific to the assigned department and may include any of the following:
Produces presentations, posters, charts, tables, reports, graphs, spreadsheets, auto CAD designs, and multimedia visuals aids.
Performs office/administrative work such as filing, composing and producing routine correspondence, collecting and correlating data, and answering or making telephone calls.
With direct supervision, the student intern may assist with tasks specific to the area assigned such as:
Conducts laboratory tests.
Writes handbooks or manuals.
Generates financial forecasts and cost recovery reports.
Troubleshoots computer hardware or software issues.
Prepares employee schedules.
Coordinates meetings and conference calls or webinars.
Generates department budgetary and financial or numerical forecasts and reports.
Researches and retrieves information; organizes research findings.
Conducts studies and surveys.
Coordinates courses for employees and develops training assessments, evaluations, surveys, presentations, or handouts for classes.
Generates marketing plans and aids with educational community outreach events.
Conducts department audits.
Completes other duties as assigned.

Computer software skills using Microsoft Office applications.
Clear and effectively oral and written communication skills in English.

Ability to comply with company policies and procedures.
Ability to learn the various details of operation of the assigned department.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions in English.
Ability to learn third party software and hardware specific to the assigned department.
Education & Experience Requirements
Must be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university, and in good academic standing or have graduated with an undergraduate degree or higher.
Juniors, Seniors, Graduate Students, and recent Graduates will be given preference.
Experience relevant to the department business nature is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
A valid Texas Driver License or receipt of a valid Texas Driver License with 90 days of relocation to Texas and a safe driving record as measured by company policy is required.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 40 lbs.). Work is done in a normal office environment with limited exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt and dust, and/or disagreeable sights and odors.
Eligibility for Employment
In addition to any and all other qualifications required for employment stated under the Brownsville P.U.B Personnel Policies and Procedures Policy No. 39:
- Prohibit the hiring of any person who is related to BPUB Executive Management within the third degree of Consanguinity or second degree by Affinity; and
- Based on certain prohibitions of the Charter and Statute on nepotism, no person can be hired who shall be related to any member of the Board of Directors or City Commission within the third degree of consanguinity or second degree by affinity.
