JOB TITLE: Assistant Director- Building Operations
REPORTS TO: Director of Building Operations
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt
PAY GRADE: AM 4
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Assistant Director-Building Operations is responsible for assisting in the management of the of the Building Operations Department to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations with a primary focus on employee relations and operations. In addition, the Assistant Director will lead the department in the absence of the Director of Building Operations.
The Assistant Director-Building Operations must act with integrity, support organizational goals, demonstrate the ability to inspire, grow and motivate others, utilize feedback, drive for results and commit to championing the needs of the students, employees and overall District.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Five (5) years of Supervisor experience
- Acceptable driving record
Preferred:
- Five (5) years of experience in district operations
- Three (3) years of employee relations experience
- Three (3) years of experience in custodial and/or grounds maintenance practices
- Three (3) years of experience managing budgets
- Two (2) years of experience in asset tracking and management
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Strong understanding of common facility support practices
- Ability to manage budget and personnel
- Knowledge of cost control and financial reports
- Ability to interpret policies, procedures and data
- Strong conflict resolution skills
- Expertise of emergency operations and the ability to manage operation support functions following natural disasters and emergency situations
- Strong written and oral communication skills with an emphasis on conducting meetings and making presentations to both internal and external audiences
- Strong time management, prioritization, and decision-making skills
- Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- Strong computer application skills (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Leadership
- Lead, coach, and motivate employees of the Building Operations Department
- Promote an organizational climate that fosters positive staff morale
- Assist the Director of Building Operations in carrying out the department activities in support of the Spring ISD educational mission
- Serve as the Building Operations Safety Officer
- Serve on the Transportation ARB Committee
Personnel
- Oversee all recruiting, selection, assignment and disciplinary actions of personnel within the Building Operations Department
- Coordinate employee appraisal activities of department personnel
- Maintain written procedures of office activities and processes
Training and Professional Development
- Oversee the Building Operations training program
- Coordinate annual professional development activities for department staff
- Conduct regular department staff meetings
- Provide training and presentations as necessary for other Spring ISD campuses and departments, and organizations outside of Spring ISD
Fiscal Management/Financial Accountability
- Oversee efficient utilization of site budgets
- Assist with preparation and administration of budgets, monitor site custodial budgets throughout the year, and recommend changes and increases as needed
Building Operations Functions
- Oversee the Building Operations Department operating functions to ensure appropriate scheduling of departmental resources
- Perform activities in support of Spring ISD emergency operations (district-wide and/or departmental emergencies)
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be available for emergencies at the schools anytime of the day or night. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, prolonged sitting, repetitive hand and arm motions, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require traveling both within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Maintain emotional control, ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written in English for safety reasons. Environmental Conditions: Work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperature (hot and cold) and vehicle fumes.
