About R2S

Read to Succeed Philadelphia (R2S) is a community-based literacy organization dedicated to closing the literacy gap for children and families across Philadelphia. We provide literacy-rich programs, family engagement opportunities, and community partnerships that empower children, strengthen families, and transform communities.

Position Overview

The Communications/Marketing Intern will play a key role in strengthening R2S's brand visibility, community engagement, and storytelling. This position is ideal for a creative, motivated, and detail-oriented individual looking to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, digital media, and grassroots marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the creation and scheduling of social media content (Instagram, Facebook, Threads, etc.).
  • Support the design of flyers, newsletters, and branded materials for events and programs.
  • Capture and edit photos/videos at R2S events to be used in digital and print media.
  • Draft press releases, blog posts, and donor/partner spotlights.
  • Help maintain and update the R2S website with upcoming events, stories, and resources.
  • Assist in developing marketing campaigns for R2S programs (Summer Literacy Experience, L.I.T.E Afterschool Program, family engagement events, etc.).
  • Conduct outreach to community partners, sponsors, and local media outlets.
  • Track social media and website analytics to measure impact and engagement.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Graphic Design, or related program.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and scheduling tools.
  • Basic graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe Suite, or similar tools).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Passion for literacy, education equity, and community engagement.
