Position Overview: The Senior Field Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of security systems, including alarms, CCTV cameras, access control systems, data and fiber optic, and other related technologies. This role requires strong technical skills, customer service abilities, and the capacity to work independently in various locations and willing to travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation & Setup: Install and configure security systems, including alarm systems, video surveillance (CCTV), access control systems, data and fiber optics and other security-related technologies at customer locations. Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cables.
  • System Configuration: Program and test installed systems to ensure they function properly, adjusting settings as required based on customer specifications.
  • Maintenance & Repairs: Perform regular maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair security systems to ensure they operate optimally. Address malfunctions, replace faulty components, and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Customer Interaction: Communicate with clients to understand their security needs, provide consultations, explain system features, and train them on how to operate their security systems effectively.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose issues with security systems on-site or remotely and resolve them quickly to minimize downtime.
  • System Upgrades: Perform upgrades to existing systems, replacing outdated equipment and ensuring compliance with the latest security standards and technologies.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and maintenance activities, including parts used, time spent on-site, and issues addressed.
  • Compliance & Safety: Follow all safety regulations and industry standards when installing and servicing security systems. Ensure that installations meet local codes and regulations.
  • On-Call & Emergency Services: Provide rotational on-call or emergency services to customers as required, including troubleshooting after hours or during weekends.
  • Inventory Management: Track and maintain an inventory of parts and equipment necessary for field operations. Ensure equipment and tools are well-maintained and readily available for service calls. Stock company van with tools and supplies.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education: High School diploma or GED
  • Experience: Proven experience as a field service technician or installer, specifically with security systems, including alarms, surveillance cameras, and access control systems.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of security technologies, including CCTV systems, intrusion alarms, and access control. Proficiency with fiber and copper cable termination and testing techniques. Knowledge of TIA/EIA standards and BICSI best practices. Ability to reach and interpret technical documents, construction drawings, and wiring schematics.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think on your feet and resolve technical issues in a timely manner.
  • Customer Service: Strong customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical details clearly and build rapport with clients.
  • Physical Ability: Capable of lifting and installing equipment (may involve climbing ladders, working in tight spaces, and handling heavy equipment).
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially when dealing with customers and documenting service work.
  • Driving: Valid driver's license and a clean driving record. Must be able to travel to various job sites and manage multiple service calls.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience: Two years of experience in structured cabling and fiber optic installation, experience with conduit bending, and pathway systems, previous work on government, healthcare, or educational campuses.
  • Certifications: Industry-specific certifications such as NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies), or certifications in specific systems (e.g., CCTV, access control) BICSI installer certification (Level I, II or Technician). FOA CFOT, OSHA 10 or 30
  • Technical Education: An associate's degree or certification in electronics, electrical systems, or a related field is a plus.
  • Low Voltage and Low Voltage Systems Experience: Previous experience

Work Environment:

  • Field-Based: This role requires traveling to customer locations for installations, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Work Hours: Flexible hours, with some evening or weekend work depending on client needs. Availability for on-call services may be required.
  • Tools & Equipment: Must provide own hand tools; company may supply specialized tools, safety equipment, and company vehicle if applicable.
