Job title:    SEN Teacher

Location:   Westbourne School, Sutton in Ashfield, NG17 2EL

Hours:       37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday

Salary:       Up to £42,000.00 per annum dependant on experience (not pro rata)

Contract:   Permanent, Term Time only

As part of our continued growth, we are delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity for an SEN Teacher (with a focus on Maths and/or Science) to join our dedicated and close-knit team at Westbourne School, located in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

This is a rewarding and dynamic role where you will play a vital part in delivering high-quality education to students with a range of additional needs, helping to create an inclusive, safe, and engaging learning environment.

About the role

You will be responsible for delivering tailored, inspiring lessons in Maths and/or Science up to Key Stage 4 , supporting the individual learning needs of our pupils and contributing to their educational, social, and emotional development.

You will teach individual students or small groups in line with the school’s curriculum framework, and help ensure that each learner achieves meaningful outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver and teach individual students or small groups in line with the school’s curriculum and policies
  • Teach Maths and/or Science up to Key Stage 4
  • Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress, ensuring individual learning needs are met
  • Contribute to school development initiatives in line with the School Development Plan
  • Support the physical, educational, and moral development of pupils in accordance with company policies
  • Create a stimulating and supportive classroom environment with appropriate displays, resources, and learning aids
  • Coordinate the teaching, development, assessment, and reporting of key subjects as agreed with the Headteacher
  • Devise and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Behaviour Plans, and related student-focused documents
  • Ensure classroom and off-site safety planning, including risk assessments
  • Provide direction and guidance to Learning Support Assistants, Tutors, and care staff to ensure consistent delivery
  • Support pupils in developing self-regulation and positive behaviour through consistent behavioural strategies

What We’re Looking For – Essential Requirements

  • UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognised equivalent
  • Experience or a strong interest in working with pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • Experience teaching Maths and/or Science to Key Stage 4 level
  • Passionate about inclusive education with a creative and flexible approach to teaching
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Full UK Driving licence – desirable

Westbourne School caters for pupils aged 11-18 and we are growing to 85 pupils across two sites. You will be responsible for planning and delivering various subjects across the curriculum. Differentiation and individualised learning strategies are vital skills required to meet the needs of all our pupils who will have had varying degrees of success in their educational lives.
