As a Mobile Engineering Manager within the PayPal Design System (PDS) team, you will lead teams of engineers that build PayPals core design system framework the foundation that powers experiences across our Consumer App ecosystem, including PayPal, Venmo, Xoom, and Merchant applications. In this role, you will be responsible for shaping and evolving the architecture and capabilities that enable design and experience consistency across both Android and iOS platforms. Youll partner closely with Design, Product, and Platform leaders to create scalable, reusable, and delightful mobile components that accelerate innovation while maintaining the highest standards of quality and performance. Youll also play a key leadership role in growing high-performing engineering teams, fostering collaboration, and cultivating a culture of technical excellence, inclusivity, and craftsmanship. Essential Responsibilities: Directly manages software development projects (including program management) and execution through individual contributors. May also lead project teams across platforms or groups Implements processes to drive strong operational hygiene for all components and systems within their group Responsible for the delivery of projects, including quality and timeliness, that impact their domain and potentially one other Demonstrates strong tactical ability by managing the roadmap for a scrum team responsible for technical issues of diverse scope where analysis requires an understanding of current business or tends Competent at communicating technical issues with non-technical audiences Analyzes multiple sources of information and identifies & resolves complex technical, operational, and organizational problems relating to software development. Collaborates with direct team, managers in org, stakeholders such as Product Owners & PMO Expected Qualifications: 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications: Lead and mentor mobile engineering team to deliver high-quality frameworks and libraries. Drive the success of the mobile design system platform, ensuring performance, scalability, and developer delight. Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers across domains to align priorities and execution. Shape the technical architecture for modular, reusable components supporting multiple apps and brands. Establish clear goals, milestones, and delivery timelines for key initiatives. Oversee code reviews, architecture discussions, and design reviews to maintain consistency and quality. Promote engineering best practices, performance optimization, and accessibility across mobile platforms. Foster a collaborative, learning-oriented culture focused on innovation, craftsmanship, and impact. Additional Qualifications: 2 years of experience managing mobile engineering teams. Strong expertise in native mobile development for iOS and/or Android, including frameworks, SDKs, and system design. Proven experience building and maintaining scalable, reusable components and libraries. Solid understanding of mobile architecture patterns, design principles, and cross-platform consistency. Track record of leading and developing high-performing teams through mentorship and technical guidance. Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering, product, and design. Experience with Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and mobile deployment processes. Working knowledge of backend services, APIs, and system integration to support mobile experiences. Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on problem-solving and delivery execution.
