Custodian

Pay Range: $18.50 per hour

Schedule: Thursday & Friday 3pm-11pm; Saturday & Sunday 9:30am - 8pm

Location: YWCA Midtown, 2121 E Lake St, Minneapolis, MN

As a Custodian at YWCA Minneapolis, you'll be responsible for keeping our facilities clean, safe, and welcoming for members, staff, and visitors. Your work ensures our mission-driven programs and services are delivered in well-maintained, professional spaces. From daily cleaning to seasonal maintenance and customer service interactions, your role is vital to creating a positive experience for all.

• Key Responsibilities

• Complete all duties listed on the daily schedule for assigned areas.

• Perform janitorial tasks such as mopping, dusting, trash removal, disinfecting, and carpet cleaning.

• Handle event/meeting set-up and general cleaning requests.

• Maintain cleanliness of pools, windows, and restrooms.

• Perform seasonal outdoor tasks such as snow removal and lawn care.

• Operate cleaning and grounds equipment safely and effectively.

• Clean and sanitize areas involving bodily fluids following safety protocols.

• Monitor for and report facility repair needs.

• Ensure safety and security of building and property during shift.

• Interact professionally with members, staff, and contractors.

• Attention to Detail: Maintains high standards of cleanliness and safety.

• Teamwork: Works cooperatively with the Facilities team and other departments.

• Independence: Completes tasks reliably with minimal supervision.

• Customer Service: Builds positive rapport with members and staff.

• Safety Awareness: Follows all procedures for hazardous materials and facility safety.

• Communication: Keeps supervisor informed and responds to team communications clearly.

You're someone who finds satisfaction in creating clean, safe, and welcoming environments. You take initiative, work well both independently and with others, and are comfortable interacting with people throughout your shift. You enjoy practical, hands-on work and take pride in maintaining high standards of facility care.

• Required:

• Ability to read and follow written instructions, procedures, and manuals.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Willingness to learn cleaning methods, chemical safety, and equipment use.

• Available for a mix of weekday evening and weekend shifts.

• Preferred:

• High school diploma or GED.

• Prior custodial or janitorial experience.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and use ladders or scaffolding up to 30 feet.

• Ability to work in confined spaces and varying weather conditions.

• Comfortable using cleaning chemicals, power tools, and custodial equipment.

• Ability to use email and text for work communication.

• Must have flexibility to respond to occasional emergencies or urgent repairs.
