About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cybersecurity Specialist to strengthen our organization's security posture. This role involves security monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, penetration testing, and ensuring compliance with industry standards including NIST, FERPA, and HIPAA. The ideal candidate is analytical, proactive, and experienced in safeguarding enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor security systems, logs, and alerts to detect suspicious activity.
  • Lead and support incident response efforts, including containment, investigation, and remediation.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and manage remediation activities across systems and applications.
  • Perform penetration testing to identify and validate security weaknesses.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations such as NIST, FERPA, HIPAA, and internal policies.
  • Assist in developing security policies, standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to implement security improvements.
  • Conduct security awareness training for staff as needed.
  • Produce clear documentation and reports related to security incidents, assessments, and audits.

Required Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of experience in cybersecurity or information security roles.
  • Strong knowledge of SIEM tools, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and endpoint protection.
  • Experience with vulnerability scanners and penetration testing tools (Nessus, Qualys, Burp Suite, etc.).
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (NIST, FERPA, HIPAA).
  • Understanding of network security principles, firewalls, encryption, and authentication.
  • Experience handling cybersecurity incidents and investigations.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry certifications such as Security+, CEH, CISSP, GSEC, or OSCP.
  • Experience with cloud security (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Knowledge of threat intelligence platforms and SOC environments.
  • Scripting or automation experience (Python, PowerShell).
