GENERAL SUMMARY

The Part-Time Economic Development Coordinator provides administrative, technical, and marketing support to the Assistant Village Manager/Economic Development Director in carrying out the Village's economic development initiatives. This position assists in research, data collection, marketing activities, business outreach, event coordination, and project support related to business attraction, retention, expansion, and community marketing. The role serves as a key liaison for business inquiries and actively supports the Assistant Village Manager in advancing the Village's economic development initiatives, fostering strong communication and collaboration among developers, real estate partners, community organizations, and Village departments.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following duties are intended as illustrations of the various types of work performed and are not all-inclusive.

The Economic Development Coordinator:

  • Assists with business attraction, retention, and expansion efforts by preparing marketing materials, maintaining business contact lists, and supporting economic development outreach activities.
  • Conducts research, gathers data, and prepares summaries, reports, graphics, charts, and promotional content to support economic development projects, grant applications, and departmental initiatives.
  • Supports the administration of economic development programs, including the Enterprise Zone, TIF districts, and other incentive programs by collecting documentation, tracking applications, and coordinating with applicants.
  • Assists with the preparation of presentations, exhibits, and materials for meetings with businesses, community groups, elected officials, commissions, and other public stakeholders.
  • Helps coordinate community tours, site visits, and business meetings by preparing site proposals, assembling community information packets, and maintaining the database of available sites and buildings.
  • Assists with producing and updating marketing campaigns, flyers, social media content, and other communication designed to promote Village's economic development opportunities.
  • Conducts preliminary financial or demographic research to support the Director's analysis of development proposals and economic impacts.
  • Helps manage content and background information for the community program show, including collecting event details, researching topics, and supporting production needs.
  • Maintains and updates information related to utilities, zoning, transportation, taxes, and community services; responds to initial inquiries from businesses, residents, developers, and partnering agencies.
  • Provides administrative support to Village economic development initiatives, including scheduling, recordkeeping, maintaining files, monitoring deadlines, and assisting with the preparation of department budgets and reports.
  • Represents the department at meetings, community events, business outreach activities, and economic development functions as assigned; some events may occur outside regular business hours.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support the economic development and marketing functions of the Village.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree required; Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Business, Public Administration, Marketing, Economic Development, or a related field preferred.
  • One to three years of experience in economic development, marketing, planning, communications, or related municipal field preferred.
  • Knowledge of economic development principles, community planning, business support practices, or municipal operations desired.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to prepare professional reports, marketing materials, and presentations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required; experience with graphic design software, GIS, website management, or social media platforms is highly desirable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is primarily performed in an office environment with occasional outdoor activity for site visits, business outreach, and community events. The position may require lifting materials and equipment up to 25 pounds and traveling to various locations within the Village.

Pay: $ $26.50 per hour
