Title: Manager – Environmental Services

FTE: 1.0 FTE

Schedule: Monday-Friday could vary with departmental needs)

Holiday Rotation: Available as needed

Weekend Rotation: Available as needed

On Call Requirements: Available as needed.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Environmental Services Manager provides strategic leadership, direction, and operational oversight to continually enhance the facility's EVS standards and practices. This role supports the hospital's mission and vision by guiding staff, making sound business decisions, and fostering a safe, clean, and patient-centered environment. The manager ensures the day-to-day operations of the department run smoothly and consistently delivers high levels of cleanliness, aesthetics, and service for patients, visitors, and staff.

POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide day-to-day supervision to EVS staff.
  • Complete on a timely basis, competency check lists, performance evaluations, and new employee competency check lists.
  • Schedule staff for total coverage of all areas to be cleaned.
  • Perform cleaning evaluations on EVS staff to ensure that cleanliness and orderliness meets the high standards established.
  • Monitor linen area and billing of linen.
  • Serves as Administrator for the organizational Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) program.
  • Assist in coordinating employee payroll as assigned.
  • Review Environmental Services policies to make sure they are up-to-date and followed by department staff.
  • Train and evaluate employees on proper ways to clean and on safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensure staff are performing cleaning tasks within regulated guidelines. Perform regular staff inspections.
  • Conduct interviews, makes hiring decisions, evaluations, and disciplines employees, as assigned.
  • Work with other departments on scheduling extra cleaning.
  • Assist in preparation and implementation of department budget.
  • Order supplies and ensure supplies are stocked to meet daily requirements.
  • Keep departmental leadership updated on employee or work-related issues necessary to accomplish departmental responsibilities.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations for environmental hygiene maintenance for new floor coverings, wall coverings, furnishings, and interior finishes prior to purchase.
  • Develops a comprehensive waste management program to include, but not limited to goals, operation requirements, reporting procedures, manifests, and documentation for all forms of waste.
  • Coordinates scheduling and oversees subcontractors and vendors.
  • Supervises and/or performs on-call emergency services when needed.
  • Serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) within Environmental Services, regulatory compliance, and training.
  • Represents Environmental Services on Infection Control, Safety, and other committees as assigned.
  • In conjunction with Infection Control, selects and implements chemicals and equipment for cleaning and disinfecting.
  • Occasionally performs various cleaning tasks as necessary (i.e., coverage for sick employees, emergencies, special requests).

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Required:  High School diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred:  Associate or bachelor's degree in business or related field

Experience:

  • Required:  Minimum 3-5 years of EVS or housekeeping experience

    Previous leadership or supervisory experience

  • Preferred:  Experience working in a healthcare setting (hospital and/or clinic environment)

Licenses and Registrations:

  • Required:  None
  • Preferred:  None

Certification(s):

  • Required:  None
  • Preferred:   Certification as a Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP).  Designated trainer status for Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (T-CHEST) or Certified Surgical Cleaning Technician (T-CSCT)
