Summary/Objective:

To provide safe, clean, tested, and inspected items by performing decontamination and high-level disinfection according to manufacture instructions.

Once level I mastered, will advance to level II.

  • Improves and/or supports others in improving the health and well-being of all patients through excellence in patient care and teaching.
  • Be knowledgeable about professional and practice issues related to the field of gastroenterology.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with Galen clinical policies, State Regulations, AAAHC guidelines, and OSHA standards.
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for the patient and staff by complying with facility requirements and safety standards set forth by the organization.
  • Daily set up decontamination room and DSD room. Maintains neat, orderly, and safe work area and practices economy in the use of all supplies.
  • Responsible for care and handling of all GI Endoscopes and equipment used in processing/decontaminating.
  • Prepares endoscopes at the beginning of the shift for use.
  • In accordance with doctor's preferences and established standards, ensures the presence of all instruments, equipment, and supplies necessary for gastroenterological procedure.
  • Always follow manufacturer's recommendations for proper disinfection of the endoscopes.
  • Performs duties in the processing/decontamination area such as washing, assembling, disinfecting, and highly disinfecting instruments.
  • Ensures Endoscopes and equipment pass each cycle in the DSD machine.
  • Properly log tickets from the DSD machines in the logbook.
  • Maintains DSD machines according to manufacturer's requirements.
  • Calls Steris for instructions and/or scheduling repair of DSD if problems occur during daily operations.
  • Terminally cleans processing/decontamination area and DSD room at the end of the day.
  • Keeps areas neat, tidy, and organized throughout the day.
  • Properly disposes of contaminated supplies and equipment.
  • Ensures that all equipment is functional
  • Stores Endoscopes and supplies properly.
  • Ensures that all supply levels are maintained. Monitors dated supplies to ensure sterility.
  • Assists in the orientation/training of new GI tech level I personnel.
  • Creates a work environment conducive to productive performance and learning.
  • Identifies educational and training needs for all personnel.
  • Report any unusual incidents or occurrences to the Clinical Manager. Consults with the Clinical Manager administrative issues and problems.
  • Provides a safe environment for the patient to prevent potential injury. Investigates and intervenes in problem situations, reporting appropriate information to the Clinical Manager and documents same.
  • Assists in product evaluation.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Keep stock hallway clear or all boxes to one side for safety reasons. Break boxes down.
  • Promotes responsibility as a member of the GI team by displaying a professional attitude.
  • Responsible for attending annual department training, fire/safety, and infection control education. Maintaining knowledge of safety procedures within the facility.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain BLS certification.
  • Assist in Pre-op and PACU as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by Clinical Manager.

  • Attend regular staff meetings and in-services as directed by your manager.

  • Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities.
  • Complete assignments efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Understands and abides by OSHA, HIPAA & CLIA standards.

WORKING HOURS:

  • Works approximately 40 hours per week, overtime will be avoided if possible.
  • Weekends, holidays and overtime must be worked as required by department.
  • The reasonable scheduling of overtime is the prerogative of Galen, and employees will be expected to work such overtime unless excused by their supervisor.
  • Galen reserves the right to change the work schedule of any employee when it is considered in the best interest of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • GI experience preferred. Medical Assistant License or Surgical Tech.
  • BLS certified.
