About Us: St. Louis Survivors Legal Support (SLSLS) is a nonprofit organization that provides free legal services to survivors seeking protection from intimate partner violence in the St. Louis region. We are a small but growing team of dedicated professionals and volunteers who believe every survivor deserves a lawyer by their side. We seek a compassionate, mission-driven attorney to represent survivors in Order of Protection and related custody matters.
Position Overview: The Custody Attorney will represent survivors who share children with their abusers in Order of Protection and custody cases (as part of dissolution or paternity matters). This role offers an opportunity to do deeply meaningful, life-changing work with the support of highly experienced attorneys and a collaborative nonprofit environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent SLSLS clients who share children with their abusers in their Order of Protection cases and in their companion custody proceedings.
- Prepare pleadings, motions, and other court filings.
- Advocate for clients in court, ensuring their voices are heard and their safety prioritized.
- Collaborate with SLSLS staff and partners to provide holistic support to survivors.
- Maintain accurate case files and data for grant reporting and compliance.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school; admission to the Missouri Bar.
- Family law or litigation experience is preferred but not required. SLSLS provides top-notch on-the-job mentoring by seasoned attorneys.
- Strong commitment to serving survivors of intimate partner violence.
- Excellent oral advocacy, writing, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $82,000 annually
