We are seeking an experienced cook that can cater to the needs of children ages 1-6 to join our team at in Prosper TX. As our primary cook, you will be responsible for preparing balanced snacks and meals, while ensuring that the dietary restrictions for the children are upheld. The cook will need to ensure that all health and safety standards are met and should possess a Food Handler's manager certificate. The cook will also be responsible for managing kitchen and food supplies and maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and teacher facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Follows the daily menu that is prepared in conjunction with, or by, the Director, including portion control standards for meal and snack preparation
  • Creates menus that include healthy lunches and snacks
  • Ensures that all state and local health department, licensing, safety and nutritional requirements are met
  • Follows standards of personal hygiene, safety, and sanitation in addition to ensuring that other staff in the kitchen do the same
  • Ensures that each meal is ready to be served when scheduled
  • Ensure children with food allergies/restrictions are served the correct foods
  • Maintains an orderly, clean, and safe kitchen area
  • Maintains a professional personal appearance, attitude, and work behavior
  • Able to work independently and manage all kitchen duties independently
  • Wash and sanitize the sippy cups and bottles daily, after each meal
  • Go to the grocery as needed throughout the week to shop for items
  • Ensure the safe handling and preparation of all foods
  • Manage and control the food budget

Qualifications and Skills of Cook:

  • A love for children and a strong desire to make a difference every day.
  • Familiarity with proper conditions and food storage, the ability to understand the needs of children with food allergies, and to implement methods of food cross-contamination avoidance.
  • Ability to follow nutritious menus and prepare sufficient quantity of food for center population.
  • Basic math skills required for measuring and calculating serving portions.
  • Possess a Food Manager's License.
  • At least one year of institutional cooking -- food ordering experience highly desirable
  • Two or more years of experience working with children, highly desirable.
