Position Summary
The Project Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the Waseskun Healing Centre model by coordinating collaborative work with Indigenous communities across Quebec, Ontario, and the Maritimes. This position focuses on exploring, documenting, and supporting Indigenous-led alternatives to current justice, corrections, and reintegration practices. Grounded in Indigenous values, lived experience, and community-based knowledge, the Project Coordinator supports relationship-building, project planning, and implementation while ensuring cultural safety, accountability, and alignment with Waseskun’s mission and healing philosophy.
This role requires strong coordination skills, deep respect for Indigenous ways of knowing, and the ability to work across jurisdictions, systems, and communities.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Relationship Building
- Build and maintain respectful, trust-based relationships with Indigenous communities, leadership, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and service providers.
- Coordinate meetings, circles, and consultations with communities to explore community-driven alternatives to justice, corrections, and reintegration systems.
- Ensure community voices, priorities, and protocols guide all project activities.
Project Coordination & Implementation
- Coordinate multiple regional initiatives across Quebec, Ontario, and the Maritimes, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and resources are effectively managed.
- Support the development and implementation of pilot projects, research initiatives, or community-led programs aligned with the Waseskun model.
- Track progress, identify risks, and propose practical solutions in collaboration with internal and external partners.
Research, Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
- Assist in gathering information on existing and emerging Indigenous justice and reintegration practices.
- Document promising practices, lessons learned, and community insights in culturally appropriate ways.
- Support the preparation of reports, briefing notes, presentations, and funding-related documentation.
Collaboration & Systems Navigation
- Liaise with justice, corrections, health, and social service partners while maintaining a strong Indigenous-centered approach.
- Coordinate with internal Waseskun staff to ensure project activities align with operational realities and healing practices.
- Support dialogue between communities and government or institutional partners, as appropriate.
Cultural Integrity & Ethical Practice
- Uphold Waseskun’s healing-centred, land-based, and trauma-informed approach in all aspects of the work.
- Respect community protocols, confidentiality, and data sovereignty principles.
- Approach all work with humility, accountability, and a commitment to reconciliation and self-determination.
Qualifications & Experience
- An understanding of the impacts of colonial justice and correctional systems on Indigenous peoples.
- Experience coordinating projects across multiple regions or jurisdictions.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to work respectfully with diverse partners.

Assets
- Experience with restorative justice, healing lodges, diversion programs, or reintegration initiatives.
- Knowledge of federal and provincial justice and corrections systems.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset.
