Job Overview

Edited 11/23: I am in need of someone who can do overnight shifts. 7pm to 7am. I have 2-3 overnights during the week that are empty. The schedule will change some as I'm trying to accomodate a lot of different employees' needs.

We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professionals to provide high-quality care and support to young adults with developmental disabilities. This role involves assisting a 23 year old man and a 27 year old woman with daily activities, ensuring their safety, and promoting independence within a supportive environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to person-centered care, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Prior experience in home & community care, assisted living, or long-term care settings is highly valued. The two young people do not have a cognitive delay, only physical, and fostering independence and community involvement are a focus.

A variety of flexible shifts are available as we are trying to coordinate 24 hour a day care for these sibilings in their home. As short as 4 hours, to a 12 hour overnight, or a 12 hour day shift combined with a 12 hour overnight. Many options and combinations are possible to meet everyone's needs, including the person hired.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
  • Support residents with medication administration following HIPAA guidelines and care plans
  • Monitor residents' vital signs and overall health status, reporting any concerns promptly
  • Provide companionship and emotional support to promote mental well-being
  • Assist with meal preparation and feeding as needed, ensuring dietary restrictions are followed
  • Help residents participate in community activities and social outings to foster engagement
  • Operate patient monitoring equipment and assist with mobility using Hoyer lifts or other assistive devices
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping duties
  • Follow all safety protocols including CPR and first aid procedures; participate in ongoing training
  • Document care activities accurately in compliance with healthcare regulations and resident care plans
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, social workers, and family members to ensure comprehensive resident care

Skills

  • Proven experience in group home settings, assisted living, or long-term care environments preferred
  • Ability to perform patient observation and monitor vital signs effectively
  • Strong caregiving skills including assisting with ADLs, medication administration, and patient care documentation
  • CPR and First Aid certification required; additional certifications such as HIPAA compliance are advantageous
  • Compassionate demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills for working with diverse populations including seniors and individuals with disabilities
  • Ability to lift heavy loads safely when assisting residents with mobility or transfers using Hoyer lifts or similar equipment
  • Experience working within home health is beneficial
  • Good organizational skills for managing care plans and documenting patient progress accurately
  • Flexibility to work various shifts including days; patience, empathy, and strong communication skills are essential for success in this role

Other tasks:

  • Assisting with feeding a 9 pound dog and putting a harness and leash on him. Putting diapers on same dog.
  • Light cleaning, including: vacuuming bedroom floor, washing sheets and re-making the bed, light toilet cleaning.
  • Cleaning CPAP headgear

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: Up to $140.00 per day

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
