Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineering Manager leads the Mechanical Engineering function, overseeing the setup, and sustainment of manufacturing workstations, tools, fixtures, and production equipment. This role is responsible for ensuring mechanical solutions support efficient, safe, and scalable manufacturing operations, from early planning through stable production. In addition to managing the team, the Mechanical Engineering Manager actively supports project execution, providing technical guidance and hands-on problem solving when required to meet operational needs.
The Industrial Engineering team plays a critical role in preparing manufacturing operations for successful execution once customer commitments are confirmed. The team works closely with Facilities and manufacturing teams to plan and establish production layouts, equipment placement, tooling, and supporting infrastructure, ensuring production lines are designed for efficiency, safety, scalability, and cost effectiveness.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and develop the Mechanical Engineering team, including Mechanical Engineers and Mechanical Technicians.
- Oversee mechanical engineering planning, resource definition, and documentation to support efficient and scalable production.
- Ensure standardized workstation designs are developed, documented, and deployed consistently across production lines.
- Provide technical oversight for station setup, fixtures, tooling, liquid cooling systems, and production equipment.
- Support cross-functional planning efforts with Industrial Engineering, Facilities, Equipment Engineering, and Manufacturing teams.
- Review maintenance data and equipment performance reports to reduce downtime and improve reliability.
- Step in to provide hands-on technical support, troubleshooting, and decision-making during critical production issues or resource constraints.
- Establish and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment setup, maintenance, and safety.
- Manage vendor relationships related to mechanical equipment, fixtures, tools, and services.
- Support capacity planning, budgeting, and continuous improvement initiatives related to mechanical systems.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Strong leadership and team development capabilities, including coaching and performance
management.
- Deep understanding of manufacturing workstation design, tooling, fixtures, and equipment integration.
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on technical problem solving.
- Strong cross-functional communication and coordination skills.
- Experience reviewing and optimizing mechanical engineering plans, resource utilization, and production readiness activities.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing safety, ergonomics, and equipment reliability principles.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands and support multiple projects simultaneously.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- Prior experience leading or supervising engineering teams required.
- Experience supporting high-mix, high-volume manufacturing environments preferred.
