The Opportunity:
As an Associate, Data Governance and Strategy, you will be responsible for supporting Hamilton Lane's strategic enterprise data mastering efforts, process documentation, and foundational governance practices across mission-critical platforms. As a key member of the Digital Business Transformation team, you will focus on the operational execution of data stewardship, data mastering, best practices, and cross-departmental collaboration to ensure our data assets are organized, accurate, and compliant.
Your responsibilities will be to:
- Assist in the implementation and ongoing maintenance of enterprise-wide data governance policies, standards, and stewardship frameworks.
- Support day-to-day management and validation of master/reference data under supervision, executing regular data quality checks and basic reconciliations across investment, client, and operational data domains.
- Help establish and document key business processes and maintain team playbooks and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Participate in process certifications and assist with cross-system mapping documentation.
- Contribute to ongoing data governance programs by identifying issues, logging exceptions, and partnering with colleagues on remediation and escalation.
- Work with business units and compliance teams to ensure data management activities align with regulatory requirements (SOX, AML/KYC, privacy, etc.).
- Collaborate in cross-functional stewardship initiatives alongside business, operations, and technology teams.
- Track assigned metrics and produce periodic status updates for established KPIs.
- Recommend process improvements and automation opportunities to increase data accuracy and efficiency, particularly as they relate to MDM (Master Data Management)
Your background will include:
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, information systems, data management, or a related discipline.
- 2-4 years of experience in data management, business analysis, or operations within financial services is preferred.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage routine tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt priorities under guidance.
- Familiarity with data validation tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and modern enterprise data platforms.
- Interest in developing expertise in data governance, stewardship, and digital transformation
Success Measures:
- Stewardship Coverage: Identify primary data sources, data classifications, and data owners for all core data attributes/processes and record these in the governance repository within six months.
- Data Quality Improvement: Track quarterly master data quality and implement targeted improvements that reduce repeat errors.
- Process Documentation: Complete and share playbooks or process guides for every new critical master data flow or transformation within 60 days of project launch.
- Automation & Efficiency: Deliver automation or workflow enhancements for data governance each quarter, with measurable impact.
- Master Data Management (MDM) Standards: Support development and implementation of new or revised MDM, metadata, or lineage standards annually, tracking completion and adoption.
