We are currently seeking for a Laser Operator that wants to grow with S+S and be a part of our team

This position is located in Houston, TX East Downtown).

Qualifications:

• 1–2 years of experience operating CNC laser equipment (Amada preferred but not required).
• Basic understanding of laser cutting conditions (speed, assist gas, nozzle size, lens condition).
• Strong reading of blueprints, engineering drawings, and job travelers.
• Ability to use measuring tools with accuracy (±0.005 typical).
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work on feet for extended periods.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):

• Set up, operate, and monitor CNC laser cutting machines to cut metal components according to job travelers, prints, and customer specifications.
• Perform program selection, material loading, focus adjustment, nozzle changes, and cutting condition verification.
• Run both long-run production and small batch/high-mix parts efficiently with minimal scrap.
• Ensure correct identification of materials (aluminum, copper, stainless, mild steel, etc.) and verify thickness before running any job.
• Validate first-article pieces using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, height gauges, and other measuring devices.
• Compare cut parts against engineered drawings and internal inspection checklists (Hole ID, Width, Bend Length, Slot tolerances, etc.).
• Escalate nonconformances immediately and participate in corrective actions when required.
• Maintain part identification and proper labeling to support PPAP, downstream processes, and customer documentation.
• Perform routine maintenance including nozzle cleaning, lens checks, assist gas verification, and slat cleaning.
• Monitor machine performance and notify Maintenance/Leadership of any issues that could affect productivity or quality.
• Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with 5S expectations.
• Follow all plant safety policies, including PPE requirements for laser operation, material handling, and gas systems.
• Adhere to all SOPs, work instructions, and training guidelines.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of raw materials, cut parts, and scrap.
• Keep work area clean and organized
• Work well with others on the team
• Properly communicate with teammates and managers.

Show up to work on time and ready to work

Shifts:

Days - Monday-Friday 5:00am-5:00pm, including weekends as needed

Nights - Monday-Friday 5:00pm-5:00am, including weekends as needed

Compensation: Depending on experience

Night shift premium - $2 additional per hour (5pm-5am)
