The University of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society (SUS) is a BC Not-For-Profit Society representing and serving UFV students. The Society manages the Student Union Building and facilitates services such as the UFV U-PASS, food services, and the student health and dental plan. SUS also provides support to an active community by organizing events and providing wellness and developmental programming. As the official representative body of UFV students, o ur mission is to be an inclusive community that provides high-quality, accessible programs and services. We are the unified voice advocating on behalf of student interests in the UFV community, ensuring each student has opportunities to thrive.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Student Representative at Large sits on the SUS Board of Directors and acts as the oversight group for the Executives and Executive Director. This position oversees the high-level direction of the Society but is not involved in day-to-day operations, administration, or management processes. The student representative meets once per month to review reports and to discuss and direct the long-term plans that impact students. The position must be filled by a current student of UFV who will be enrolled in a minimum of one three-credit course in both the Fall and Winter semesters.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF THE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE AT LARGE
The Student Representative, in conjunction with other Executives, has responsibility for a variety of functions, including but not limited to the following:
- Fulfilling the duties outlined in the Responsibilities of a Director policy;
- Making decisions about the financial, legal, and ethical obligations that the organization must fulfill;
- Acting honestly, in good faith, and in the best interests of the Society;
- Supporting the long-term interests of SUS;
- Treating individual stakeholders, who are affected by the Society's actions, equitably and fairly;
- Making sound decisions while considering the best interests of Members, employees, creditors, students, governments, and the environment;
- Ensuring there is no conflict of interest while making decisions;
- Ensuring compliance with bylaws and legal filings;
- Being prepared for and attending board meetings;
- Preparing written and verbal reports to present to the Board;
- Supporting SUS Executives and holding them accountable;
- Exercising oversight with diligence, prudence, and the care that reflects you are acting in the best interests of the Society;
- Behaving respectfully and professionally toward other Board members, student union staff, and Members both publicly and privately (this also includes all forms of media such as news articles and social media platforms);
- Speaking freely at board meetings but understanding that once the Board has made a decision, the Director must unequivocally support those decisions;
- Recognizing and respecting the President as the primary spokesperson for The Society and as the only person authorized to speak for the Board or the Society; and
- Acquiring a working knowledge of the BC Societies Act, the SUS Bylaws and Policies, Robert's Rules, and any other items governing the business of the Society.
COMPENSATION: This is a volunteer position that includes the benefit of priority registration, board training, and a letter of recommendation from the SUS President on completion of the term in office.

This is an elected position. All candidates who successfully pass the review period will participate in the campaign period, with the successful candidate being chosen by a student-wide vote occurring March 2 to 5th.
