Maintenance Technician I (Floater)

General Summary
The Maintenance Technician I (Floater) provides year-round support to multiple Hyland Hills facilities. Assignments change seasonally and are determined by the Executive Staff. While assigned to a specific facility, day-to-day direction is provided by the respective facility manager and management team. The technician performs a wide range of general maintenance, repairs, seasonal tasks, and equipment operation to ensure District facilities remain safe, clean, and operating efficiently.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Facility & Building Maintenance
- Perform general building maintenance including cleaning, minor repairs, painting, and assisting with renovation or construction projects.
- Prepare attractions and facility spaces by washing, cleaning, waxing, painting, and completing set-up needs.
- Conduct routine seasonal preventive maintenance, such as:
- Energizing/de-energizing electrical breakers
- Turning water and gas services on/off
- Inspecting faucets, toilets, urinals, lavatories
- Servicing motors, belts, fans, heaters, and air conditioning units
- Cleaning sewer lines, drains, vents, and filters
- Assist with maintenance and minor repairs of equipment used across all facilities.
- Support District-wide projects and assist other staff as assigned.
Grounds & Exterior Maintenance
- Perform grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, weeding, watering, and golf course set-up.
- Perform additional exterior maintenance tasks as needed, including seasonal projects and other duties as assigned.
Vehicle & Equipment Operation
- Safely operate District vehicles, trucks, and equipment to transport items between facilities.
- Operate mechanical and specialty equipment such as Zambonis, ice edgers, mowers, and similar tools.
Aquatics Maintenance
- Participate in the pool maintenance rotation and provide emergency coverage when needed.
- Work with senior aquatics staff on pool and water-quality tasks including cleaning screens, filters, replacing pumps, and maintaining/repairing operational equipment.
Seasonal Facility Assignment Schedule (Subject to Change)
· Mid-April – Mid-August: Water World
· Mid-August – October: Golf Course
· November – February: Ice Centre
· March – Mid-April: Golf Course
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in facility and grounds maintenance.
- Basic refrigeration knowledge is beneficial, along with the aptitude to become proficient in servicing and troubleshooting ice systems.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment, especially in urgent situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.
- Ability to learn and safely operate a variety of equipment required for assigned duties.
- Availability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, snow).
- Exposure to noise, fumes, odors, dust, and active construction environments.
- Seasonal schedules may require start times as early as 5:00 a.m. or end times as late as 9:00 p.m.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least one year of experience in maintenance and/or construction.
- Valid Colorado driver's license.
- Basic knowledge of groundskeeping and building maintenance practices.
