JOB SUMMARY:

The runner is an integral part of the Congress Austin Team. The job requires competency with food service.  Serving ladies first from the left to the proper table and the proper guest with a sense of urgency is the goal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Arrive at work on time in proper uniform
  • Attain knowledge from pre-shift meetings
  • Have thorough understanding of table numbers and position numbers
  • Have thorough understanding of assigned sections, large party times and special events.
  • Deliver food to proper table and proper guest
  • Assist servers and bar staff with any needs available
  • Serve food, to the guests to SBK standards
  • If silver needed, carry in a linen, not with bare hands
  • Continue communication with Front of House and Back of House throughout shift
  • Accommodate guest requests in an efficient, professional manner and notify server
  • Assist with side work properly and efficiently
  • Assist Server Assistant with restocking of glassware, ice, etc.
  • Polish glassware and silverware as needed
  • Clean expo area and replenish as needed
  • Clean and garnish plates as directed
  • Be available at all times to fulfill the needs of guests, servers, and management
  • Perform any service duties as assigned necessary for guest service standards of specialty concept
  • Communicate properly and efficiently with servers, bartenders, and management
  • Help other team members in their duties when time allows for a team success (they will help when you need help)
  • Be prepared to run deliveries to Austonian residences and know pre-set procedures
  • Must adhere to Congress Austin policies as well as IRS laws in regards to reporting cash tips and gratuities

  • Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly
  • Must be able to evaluate and choose alternate courses of action quickly and accurately
  • Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary
  • Must have the ability to gather information from all sources available and know how to use this information to best resolve a problem or need
  • Must be effective in listening to and understanding the concerns and issues raised by other employees or customers
  • Must be able to prioritize work as needed
  • Must communicate effectively with all levels of management
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming
  • Maintain regular attendance
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, customers and patrons
  • Must be flexible to provide assistance to management team in a 24/7 operating environment 
  • Must have reliable transportation

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of high school diploma / equivalency or at least two years of progressive experience in a customer service, hospitality or a related field required
  • Must possess English Language Skills sufficient to fully comprehend job assignments, including the ability to read, write and communicate in fluent English
  • Extensive knowledge of wine, spirits, beer and other beverages.
  • Must have experience in resolving guest complaints and issues to ensure 100% guest satisfaction
  • Cash handling experience
  • Must have advanced knowledge of culinary preparation
  • Ability to operate basic food and beverage equipment
  • Must have current TABC and Food Service Handler certifications
  • Positive interpersonal skills required
  • Basic Math Skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Working extended hours may be required as needed
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use repetitive wrist and finger movement, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Work standing on feet for extended periods of time, approximately 8+ hours per day
  • Occasionally lifting, pulling or pushing up to 50 lbs
