Responsible for performing general labor as part of a team that is responsible for track projects including construction, maintenance, inspections, and service.

• Drive spikes into ties using manual or powered tools.
  
• Move and set cross ties and lengths of steel rail.
  
• Shovel stone and maintain ballast alignment.
  
• Adjust and lubricate switches to ensure proper operation.
  
• Tighten track bolts and check track gauge and cross-level.
  
• Carry and use track jacks (approximately 40 lbs.) for maintenance work.
  
• Follow company policies on safety and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
  
• Military experience is a plus.
  

• Ability to read and understand simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  
• Capable of writing simple correspondence and presenting information effectively in small groups.
  

• Proficiency in basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  

• Apply common sense to carry out detailed but straightforward instructions.
  
• Address and resolve typical problems that arise during track maintenance activities.
  

• Frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  
• Must be able to talk and hear regularly while performing duties.
  
• Regularly lift and/or move heavy equipment and materials.
  
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  

• Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and precipitation.
  
• May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  
• Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and occasionally to fumes or airborne particles.
  
• Noise levels are typically moderate, but ear protection may be required in some situations.
  

• Starting Pay: $20/hour
