About The Opportunity
This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. (FEU)
FirstEnergy Transmission Surveyors perform a variety of survey-related functions in support of FirstEnergy's transmission network and should have experience with construction practices and/or utility industry practices, along with knowledge of general surveying practices and procedures. Our Transmission Surveyors work safely in a team environment, performing boundary, topographic and transmission line surveys, right-of-way acquisition work and construction layout surveys.
Responsibilities Include
- Utilizing the latest surveying instruments and software systems including GPS systems, total stations, terrestrial LiDAR units, TDS Survey Pro, Carlson Survey, Leica Geosystems HDS Cyclone and Civil 3D and/or AutoCAD products.
- Supporting numerous projects in locations throughout the FirstEnergy service territory. Our Transmission Surveyors must be able to travel throughout the FE territory and may be required to work extra and/or irregular hours.
- Supporting title research and analysis as well as survey data, plat and property records evaluation.
- Assisting ROW Services and Real Estate in the acquisition of transmission line easements and substation property by coordinating the preparation of survey data, sketches, maps, exhibits and easement plans.
- Working frequently with outside engineering firms, vendors and design consultants.
- Providing assistance during emergencies and storm related activities. Storm response duties may include time out of the office for extended hours and overnight stays throughout the FirstEnergy service territory.

Qualifications Include
- High School Diploma with minimum of 10 years of electric utility surveying experience required OR Associates Degree with a minimum of 5 years of electric utility surveying experience or 7 years non-utility surveying experience required OR Bachelor of Science in Surveying and Mapping or equivalent with minimum or 2 years electric utility surveying experience or 4 years non-utility surveying experience required.
- Valid driver's license. Must be willing to travel throughout the service territory and surrounding area.
- Surveyor in Training License or ability to sit for Fundamentals of Surveying exam is preferred.
- Must be physically able to work outdoors and on construction sites under all weather conditions.
- Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.
- Must possess strong organizational, computer, and problem-solving skills.
- Must embrace a safety culture and maintain a safe work environment for co-workers and the public.
- Model active learning by being curious, asking questions, producing results and strengthening relationships.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with good verbal and writing skills to provide comprehensive project status reports, clear and concise correspondence and accurate conveyance of information.
- Working knowledge of applicable computer software necessary to fulfill job duties including but not limited to Microsoft Office and AutoCAD. Knowledge of survey specific software, GIS Desktop, FileNet, SAP, PLS-CADD, and Cascade a plus but not a requirement.
- Capable of working with Surveying instruments and software systems including; GPS, Total Stations (Terrestrial LiDAR a plus), TDS Survey Pro, Carlson Survey, Leica Geosystems HDS Cyclone, Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products
- Must be able to work independently, lead a team or as part of a team to coordinate construction layout, topographical, as-built and boundary surveys with other FirstEnergy areas of responsibility including Siting, Environmental, Engineering, Project Management, Maintenance, Forestry, Real Estate and Construction, as well as the Regional operating companies.
