Upper School Teacher (9-12)

Overview
The Secondary Teacher is an integral part of the Upper School faculty, responsible for delivering a Christ-centered education that nurtures students spiritually, academically, socially, and physically, ensuring alignment with Gateway's mission. In this role, you will develop engaging curricula, foster a positive learning environment, and support students' academic and personal growth. Your enthusiasm for education, combined with your expertise in content, will help cultivate confident, curious, and well-rounded learners ready to excel in their future endeavors.

Responsibilities

• Integrate biblical principles into all areas of instruction, fostering a Christian worldview in students.
• Design and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards across subjects such as mathematics, English, science, or social studies.
• Utilize diverse teaching methods and learning technologies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
• Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative evaluations, including standardized testing and project-based assessments.
• Provide personalized support through tutoring, mentoring, and academic advising to help students achieve their full potential.
• Manage classroom behavior effectively to create a respectful and inclusive environment conducive to learning.
• Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, school initiatives, and extracurricular activities such as sports coaching or library services.
• Engage in ongoing professional development related to childhood development, special education needs, or innovative teaching strategies like Montessori or Chicago Manual of Style standards.
• Communicate clearly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and behavioral concerns through conferences and written reports.
• Support school-wide programs in literacy education, creative writing, or physical education to enrich student experiences beyond the classroom.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; advanced degrees preferred.
• Proven classroom experience working with children and adolescents in grades 9-12 within private or public school settings.
• Strong knowledge of core subjects such as Math (including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus), English (including AP style and copy editing), science, or social studies.
• Familiarity with standardized testing procedures and curriculum development best practices.
• Excellent communication skills for public speaking, mentoring, and collaborating with colleagues and families.
• Experience integrating learning technology into lesson plans to enhance student engagement.
• Ability to manage classroom behavior effectively while fostering a positive learning environment.
• Knowledge of childhood development principles, behavior management techniques, and special education accommodations is highly desirable.
