Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
Performs duties in the operation, maintenance, and inspection of the chilled water and high pressure steam distribution system and other associated equipment of the USC Columbia campus, consisting of over 200 acres, including the operation and maintenance of the auxiliary steam and hot water boilers as well as associated equipment and controls.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
- Requires job related accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma and five years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a large steam and chilled water distribution and air conditioning system.
- Experience in utility plant operations.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Have the ability to lead by example, solve problems, take initiative to provide services, develop strong customer relationships, measure cost and performance, keep accurate records, communicate effectively, develop proper procedures, define actions to resolve specific problem situations, communicate to management.
- Employee must use initiative and be proactive in discharging duties.

- Performs routine installation, maintenance and repair of the chilled water and steam distribution system including piping, valves, expansion joints, steam traps, steam control stations, condensate receivers and associated pumps by developing and receiving work orders;
- Communicating with the Call Center and the supervisor; planning, inspecting, verifying, communicating, and problem solving chilled water and steam distribution issues;
- Taking personal initiative to correct any problems;
- Ensuring that all assigned systems are in safe working order and compliant with national and local codes and regulations while exhibiting professionalism in conduct, appearance, and work practices and developing and maintaining strong customer service practices.

- Performs routine planned maintenance inspections of the high-pressure steam and chilled water distribution systems by developing or implementing a planned maintenance schedule for all systems, physically observing systems, communicating problems to appropriate personnel, and making recommendations regarding the planned maintenance program to provide for, as well as assist in, corrective action prior to necessary emergency action.
- Conducts on-the-job training with other Energy Services personnel in best practices and proper procedures for conducting inspections.
