Busy neurosurgical practice with clinics in Evansville, IN and Owensboro, KY seeks a certified Physician Assistant (PA). We offer an attractive compensation plan and comprehensive benefits.
*DUTIES*
The PA will assist in the comprehensive management of patient care across all settings, including *pre-operative, intra-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative care*, as determined by the supervising neurosurgeon. This includes *assisting in neurosurgical procedures* within the scope of licensure, training, and hospital privileges.
Responsibilities include conducting hospital rounds; writing orders and progress notes; performing histories and physicals (H&Ps); assessing trauma patients; managing post-operative procedures; and completing discharge planning and summaries.
The PA will also spend time in clinic managing patient care by performing system-focused or symptom-specific physical examinations and histories; diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries; ordering and interpreting laboratory and radiographic studies; providing patient education; performing procedural interventions; managing medications; documenting assessments and plans of care; and facilitating referrals.
The PA will maintain didactic education, clinical competency, and national certification in the identified area of clinical practice. The PA is expected to demonstrate medical knowledge, sound clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, effective interpersonal communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and ongoing professional development and competency validation.
Provides specialty-specific consultation services upon request and within the neurosurgical scope of practice.
*TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES*
* Manages previously diagnosed and undiagnosed patients within scope of licensure and certification
* Uses advanced health assessment skills to differentiate between normal, variations of normal, and abnormal findings
* Employs appropriate screening and diagnostic strategies in the development of diagnoses
* Prescribes medications within scope of practice
* Utilizes the electronic health record to document and manage patient care data
* Clearly and accurately documents findings, assessments, and plans of care
*CLINICAL KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICE*
* Demonstrates established and evolving knowledge of biomedical, clinical, and social sciences and applies this knowledge to patient care and education
* Maintains population-focused knowledge while integrating sciences that support advanced practice
* Demonstrates commitment to evidence-based practice through continuous learning
* Educates patients, families, students, and other members of the healthcare team
*INTERPERSONAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS*
* Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and healthcare team members
* Communicates clinical knowledge effectively, both orally and in writing
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Call schedule is typically 1:5 with assigned supervising surgeon (subject to change to align with staffing)
